We are considering the new Golf Wagon (diesel) as an option.
110TDI Highline

Does anyone have any feedback on them?
I heard that there were issues a while ago about the DSG gearbox seizing in some cars.

But I have heard very little since then and only seen one driving. Probably going to go the diesel is the go that way. One of the 2012 model ones with Demo KM on the clock to save nearly 10k.

Otherwise it would be a medium SUV but being 2WD I don't really see the point.

I've got 2012 model, works well it's the 6 speed dsg in the 110 tdi. The problem was with the 7 speed which is in the smaller version we have the base model
Have not had a problem with it and have had it since new. Did a trip Sydney to Melbourne and still had some left in the tank
I believe there's a few people with them on here. Jay and penguin have the tsi I think

I have a Mk6 cabrio with the 7 speed DSG that is still fairly new but it is all good. It was the older ones that were a problem and I believe they should all be fitted with mods now anyway.

I supose the other question is is it worth the additional cost for the diesel engine model which happens to the be the top of the range.
There is about 7k difference in the petrol that we would get (2nd lowest model but has the reversing camera's and the like which I want as we have little kids) and the Diesel.
But an ex demo car (even though there are only about 3 in Brisbane at the moment) is down to that 32k price bracket with less then 6,000km on the clock.

Do you have to run them on premium unleaded which always seems to be around the $1.80/litre?
Or are that that fuel efficient that is really does not matter spending the extra few dollars each time on fuel?

Resale on a diesel will no doubt be better and it is supposed to have more zip which is why I am leaning in that direction but am not yet totally sold.

Get yourself a Skoda Fabia or Octavia, better bang for buck!

Geez, I would never thought to look at a Skoda as to me the obsquire brands seem to result in more expensive servicing and parts.
But looking through the advert for the Octavia it is like reading the VW Golf Wagon page. So Similar.

Looking at the pricing through it is also very similar and what would worry me is when it came time to sell there would be a much larger market of people wanting a VW then there would be a Skoda due to the brand name.
That is also why we are looking for a ex demo instead of a brand new car to reduce the loss when we sell it.
I hope that I never have to buy a car on finance so the end sell price is important.

If you're considering resale value - Golf over the Skoda anyday. The Golf still has the best resale of the VW stable.

Highly recommend diesel - you'll become addicted to the torque and the excellent fuel consumption.

We have a 2010 118 tsi sedan with a 7 speed DSG. Fantastic car and the gearbox is a dream. Has been in for "updates" and the only issue is the slight stuttering on take off if you are light on the pedal. Drove it from Melbourne to Byron Bay and did not need any more car. Plenty of power and great fuel economy. Love it.

Cool. It is still high on the list of new cars. We had a mi or setback in as far as I own a splitty. And I stupidly decided to see what was under the paint. Ooops.
Once that cost if out the way I will see if I can afford a car.

Hey Brad, Just my thoughts on this. The new Golf wagons are based on new Golf platform with 5 star safety. Previous wagons were a generation behind, 4 stars. May be worth waiting for a demo from latest generation to become available. I am pretty sure min RON is 95 for these VAG engines. We moved from a 2.5l (91RON) outback to 1.8l TSI (95RON) sedan. Petrol cost is still the same though, but much nicer to drive. If we were buying now I would seriously consider 90TSI comfortline. Cheers, Paul
