Are headers worth doing on the 2.1ltr T3?? If so who does them??
Not worth doing,
There is nothing wrong with the stock 2.1 exhaust up to the cat.
SS headers do em
so whom is right?? Well of to the web but before i do have a squizz at this.

It is for a syncro but look at the expansion chambers. Now new question why does the syncro of the same year produce so many horses? Yes i know its
AWD and FT4WD.
S & S do make them, but they are just made of thin wall pipe like beetle extractors, they won't last 20 years like the stock ones do, and there is no
performance gain with them, see http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewforum.php?f=20
(There is a post on there somewhere about them.)
The Syncro exhaust you are talking about, are you sure that is an expansion chamber, why only on one cylinder? sure it isn't a heat shield?
Syncro and 2wd 2.1 engines are the same and same power.

Cant be these guys are getting more than 118 horses i am pretty sure my 89 mod is not getting this. Yes second look it's a heat shield.
Depending on what country the T3 was produced for will affect the 2.1's power (as with any car). Some had 82kw (110hp) rather than the 70kw (95hp)
for Oz.
I think this comes down to the different cat (different emissions laws) and the different RON ratings on the fuel (i.e. 91 in Oz and 98 in Europe?)
Hey now this sounds familair as i have been i communication, with Bosch Australia getting info. Short version i am trying to get a set of quad electrode plugs for T3 and i cant have them as the Australian fuels dont support burn or detonation, apparently it is not the RON rating it is the additives, huh??? Been searching the net and in America i can purchase a flow through cat nearly the same as shoving the pipe through it and making it hollow anyway. Are these available in Aus, Why apart from emission laws do i need a cat anyway, you can buy a catalytic convertor in America without the sensor and one with the sensor. Help, I have bought a set of 1.25 rockers and bolt on covers so the pipe and exhaust will be next, so what do i do buy american flo thru cat or hollow out the original?
I'm probably not the best person to give advice but i think the main purpose of a cat is emissions related. don't know what other purpose they
serve?
A few blokes on here may have hollowed out the original cats (don't mean to inciminate anyone). I suppose it comes down to how naughty you want to
be and whether you can afford a new high-flow cat. Could be big fines though if caught with a hollowed-out cat, but then again you could always claim
ignorance and say it must of been like that when you bought it.
I'm sure you could buy a high-flow cat suitable for the T3 in Oz.
Regarding electrode plugs...i have know idea what they are (I'm not a mechanic....i'm a bloody accountant :cussing :P )
I'd be interested in how you go with these power-up mods. Are you going to chip it to run on 95 or 98 fuel? I remember Menagler did some similar
mods as mentioned in an earlier thread.
I'm in half a mind as to whether i should go down this route rather than go the subie (or at least for now), but will make anew thread about this.
You should be running your T3's on at least 95 octain fuel anyway, even a stock engine.
$10,000 fine for no cat on a post-86 vehicle. $50K for a company car.
Where is the hi flo cat to be found in Aus? And my baby gets nothing but 97RON and then occassionally also gets the octane booster apparently it adds up to 11 points, shit thats nearly 108RON now we cooking with the good stuff. Is everybody else running the standard plug?
i try and use 98 on mine, however, the Oz owners manual says 91 is OK. Not saying i agree with the manual though.
can't help you with the high-flow cat at the moment....just assumed most exhaust shops would have ones suitable?

Don't believe the manual,
It also says the coolant is to stay in for the life of the engine, and we all know the consequences of that!!
Also says not change the gear oil.
I have heard a comadore cat can be used, if you weld on the correct ends, and put in a boss for the oxigen sensor to screw into.
mate of mine can do a hi flow cat for my Mk2 golf banger.. im sure he can do one for a T3..
Hows that then? If he is just hollowing out the centre, i think i can do that. Some of the cats on Cip1 are pretty sweet and also autowarehouse another american site that does hi performance bits for dubbs. I think i will take a wander down the road and ask a pro, just to see whats, what. Not knocking back the offer, i will look for one that is manufactured from factory, someone somewhere in Aus must know something. I mean its just a cat after all i wouldve thought they were all pretty much the same.
