is there any reason why a set of type i extractors wouldn't fit a 2.1 t3 as the basic block are the same:mad:

The flange studs are at a different angle to Type 1 on the WBX engine. that's one reason I know of, could be changed if you are keen.
The WBX exhaust is great, I doubt you would gain anything with a Type 1 exhaust.

anyone out there replaced their T3 cat and muffler with something aftermarket and how'd you find it?

i got my cat and muffler replaced after getting the vintage vw power-up kit to restore some of the low-end power.

the muffler bloke put a resonator on it as well as he said it was too throaty

I got all i need down stairs in the garage high flow cat/resonator plus cannon power pipe, but muffler bloke reckons would be a waste of time, be too loud he reckons.
Now i dont know what to do.

greedy, the flanges are 90* out on one side, you also need to put quite a sharp kink the same pipe, i can't remember why i just know you have to do it. you can also fit j pipes instead of heat exchangers, again one of the flanges is 90* out, easy when you have a welder and an angle grinder.
kombi, i've also fitted "other" mufflers instead of the origional box, a little time and a steady hand with the welder (use your old flanges in case you find a bargain!) some of the mufflers are a little large and heavy, just fit an extra support bracket!! sweeeet!
don't worry about the cat too much so long as you keep the lambda probe in there!
hope that helps out.

if anyone has a t4 van price an exhaust system for the ute / pick up, i dunno why but its cheaper!! the tail pipe is about 8" too long!! wheres me hack saw??

Hi

I ran a Type 1 system with J pipes on my old wasserboxer bug, pre turbo. Two opposing flanges need to be rotated 90 degrees, something like 1 and 4 or 3 and 2, cant remember off hand. On the 2.1 the water pipe coming out of the water pump runs straight into #4 pipe. I got around this by making a new water pipe from stainless steel that hooped over the #4 pipe. I good merged system will wake one of these motors up.

On my old wasserboxer bug (pre turbo) I made 96 @ the wheels with a 2.1 with 8.00:1 comp (stock is 9.00:1), stock cam, 1.4:1 rockers, ported heads, bug headers, slightly larger throttle body & Autronic SMC ecu.
