T3 Dual Cab performance
Mallamick - May 23rd, 2008 at 08:40 PM

Hi Guys.
I'm new to this group so here goes. I'm considering buying a 1989 T3 Dual Cab. Rear engine Kombi's were famous and legendary for their 'tractability' and of being unstoppable in getting to way out places off the beaten track. Are there any T3 DC owners who can give me some idea of how a T3 Dual Cab performs on unmade bush tracks of a sandy nature around the coastal fringes where I live. I want to use the ute for camping ,photography and collecting firewood. I've waited for a syncro but none around, also pretty heavy on that liquid gold stuff called petrol caused by its low gearing(no 5th gear) as I occasionally need to travel on the hwy. Anyway I'm not into heavy duty 4wd. Any help, advice anectdotal evidence would be much appreciated. On another matter what is BB code? Thanks in advance

Don't mean to hijack the post but I'm very interested in the chip. What effect does it have, how much and where?

Best of talking with Vintage at Campsie 9789-1777 they will explain it better

I dont know of any Syncro owner who complains of a lack of 5th gear.
Quite different in fact a syncro being a 4 speed forward box gets mobile a bit quicker if it wasn't for the xtra weight of diff/s.

Basically it all depends on what usage is for different strokes and all that.
Now a Syncro dual cab perfection in the wording.

Dont kid yourself any 4wd will get bogged so essentially a 2wd stands less chance especially in sand..

Where is the mention of chipping in this thread???

Oh and currently my 92 Syncro uses less fuel than our 89 Caravelle alot less weight in my Syncro, just a toy, so far.
