bevo - October 14th, 2008 at 09:51 PM

hey guys im new to the Aussieveedubbers. and i have just got my hands on a 76 mk1 golf, now it plays up when i hit the breaks.. there is a vacume line going from the dizzy to the break booster line, with what looks like a after market T peace connected to it.. i was wondering if this was causing some sort of vacume problem in the motor. the car will pop miss and revv will go to about 2000-2500

any help is appreciated

thanx bevo

T pieces are not used on vacuum advance and brake booster...

I believe that will fix the problem of Idle when braking..

You need two seperate vacuum points....

sounds like the booster revs the engine up...

take the vacuum advance hose off the distributor
and block off the tee piece so only the brake booster is getting vacuum and see what happens...

that should fix the problem...

but your vacuum advance on the dizzy won't be working...

Don't try it without the brakes booster connected as you may have braking problems..

there may be someone on Here with a mark 1 Golf who can help You..
welcome to Aussie vee dubbers...

cheers

check the vacuum hoses for leaks with a bit of plastic tube stuck in yr ear while the engine is running

use it to detect the leaks u will hear the suction noises also wriggle the hoses as well as the hole will open up

If you sit at idle and pump the brake is that when it does it?? or is it when you are driving and hit the brakes?? the old mk1 can be temperamental its most likely a booster issue.

hey guyz yer im guessing a new booster but, i will have a good scan over for a vac leak.

reply to REVNIT: it will play up when the car is driving and stationary, it comes on as soon as u hit the break

A perforated/damaged booster? Letting air into the engine when you operate the brakes?
