Genuine A1 Exhaust systems in Aust.
RodPenrose - January 12th, 2013 at 09:10 AM

I can now confirm that I have secured an exclusive dealership for Australia for the Genuine A1 exhaust range . I have been trying for over 4 years and now can reveal that I will be stocking the entire range of these headers that are made in the USA from 16 gauge steel tube .

These headers will fit all type 1 , early type 2 , type 3 and the late type 4 engines .

Headers will be available in raw , ceramic , black ceramic , and stainless steel in sizes of 1 1/2" , 1 5/8" ,and 1 3/4" .

I will be stocking the header only as the Mufflers that are made by A1 are a little too noisey for my liking , so you will have to get a custom tail pipe/muffler made to suit your needs .
Prices are yet to be determined , however they should be close to the following estimates

Raw headers $ 360
Ceramic coated $ 410
Black ceramic $ 410
Stainless steel $ 540
Type 4 stub pipes $ 200 set
Type 4 header Raw $ 430
Type 4 caramic $ 490

orders will be taken at this time via the website or by phone , thanks ROD, , 02-42729920 .

Hi Rod, will you be keeping all styles i.e. sidewinder, step headers, and the standard A1 type ?

Good prices.:)

RodPenrose - January 12th, 2013 at 12:57 PM

Craig , I will endevour to keep all of the original sidewinder styles for either the flanged heater boxes or the full J tube style for type 1 2 and 3, the lowdown racing headers for the type 1 only , and the type 4 headers . I will not be stocking the old skool headers with the 1/3 slip joints as there are better options on the market than this style . However the old skool style and all mufflers can be purchased by request in either raw ceramic or stainless , ROD.

Here are some pic's of the type 1 sidewinder exhaust stsyem shown with different mufflers . This is the ceramic coated header and the stainless header in the other pic . ROD .

Hey Rod,
Excuse my ignorance - but I thought the muffler was an integral part of the exhaust system and the muffler was tuned to the back pressure the system. I didn't think you could hang any old muffler off it.
Can you please let me know if I'm wrong.

RodPenrose - January 14th, 2013 at 06:18 PM

Karmann141 , It is actually up to the tuner to tune an engine to suit the particular combination . The mufflers that are supplied with the headers are way too loud due to the lack of length . I will post a pic of my own car and the custom tail pipe that bolts to the headers and runs around the engine with 2 mufflers installed at different locations . The system is very quiet for the power it makes and is tuned to suit . I have tuned many engines and a simple muffler change can alter the air/fuel ratio , ROD.

Rod's right re the sound !

Here is the sound of the A1 1 3/4 lowdown system with the A1 (magnaflow) muffler on my little 1915. They are loud, as its clearly heard over the top of a rotary doing a burnout within metres of the camera while I'm 1/4 of a mile away !!!!!

Any pics of your muffler setup Rod ?

Great News as I need a new one ! :tu:

Do you have primary pipe length measurements for the sidewinder vs lowdown ?

Cheers.

x275 - May 16th, 2013 at 09:37 PM

Rod have you got the stainless lowdown in 1 5/8 ?

Cheers

What grade stainless steel is used?
The 'copy' type I bought years back from another supplier went dark brown in no time and a magnet stuck to them easily. Be great to get good quality true 304 s/s headers...

Sorry guy's I have been a bit busy ,
Craig the 1 5/8 merged pipes are 38" from the head flange to the collector flange and the Sidewinder is 43" .
Reub , the markings on the outside of the pipe is 304 grade . These are not polished , just plain stainless .
Greg , I will get some pic's soon , but will need to get it on the hoist for good pic's . The engine size and power will determine the header diameter , ROD.

In this photo you can see the U turn he made using a doughnut.
