Wanted early 944 steel trailing arms and front and rear disc brakes please.
Brisbane area.
Can any body HELP.
For my 64 beetle.
Met the guy that owns http://www.performance9.com.au/ at leyburn sprints, might be worth asking?
I only have the rear adjustable spring plates left over. I have full 944 brake setup on my bug if you want to come round and take a look at whAts involved with the setup.
Hi
There's some for sale on German Look now http://www.germanlook.net/forums/showthread.php?t=11536 They are for a Super bug but they could be converted easily.
Steve
I got a quote from performance 9 for a set of aluminium 944 rear aluminium trailing arms, $3000 bare, no brakes or stub axles.
I've a set of 944 brembos available but are in Perth.
Performance 9 are ok, but everything Porsche comes at a price.
I ended up getting a set with the brakes and stub axles for $500.
Yeah, Perf 9 are a good option for studs and things like that, but can get a bit exxy on things like ally arms as pointed out.
Best bet probably would be ebay or get from somewhere in the US (expect shipping would cost maybe a couple hundred)
Rears
I have a set of 944 steel arms, they're EXACTLY the same as Beetle IRS arms... when I did my brake conv I just kept the beetle ones and bolted the
disc assemblies on.
What you need is 944 NA rear backing plates, ebrake assy, hubs and discs. You can use either 944 NA or Beetle stub axles depending on what CV's you
want, and either NA or Turbo calipers as you prefer.
Many "experts" will say it's not possible to do without swapping the arms, but my car I think is proof that it is.
Fronts
This is a whole lot trickier. I ended up getting some custom hubs made up to use 944NA rotors positioned to my specs... that let me get the exact
track I wanted. The hubs use Beetle bearings onto a stock BJ Beetle spindle, with a custom adapter to then mount the caliper.
This all works pretty easily for a BJ IRS car. If your car's still a K&L Swinger then not sure... rear I'd assume would be the same but NFI
about the front.
Hi
The steel 944 arms are similar to later single spring Beetle ones, but they do have an extra hole for adjustment.
The set on German Look is a bargain, the fronts could easily be fitted to 1300 drum brake ball joint stub axles.
I think the 944 racing series in Australia has forced the price of 944 suspension bits up.
