Where are you?

pfillery - December 9th, 2013 at 12:58 PM

I have a nice Harding European rack I could consider parting with. I'm planning on selling the Beetle and the rack is currently off it (never refitted after refurbishing it).

These are reputedly the nicest most solid period look racks available for the bug and Aussie made too. They cost around $1000 new and are out of production, I'd be after a bit more than what you are quoting for one from the USA though.

im in adelaide, and yeah, not keen on spending anywhere near that on it, the car is essentially a rat rod, no point spending a lot on it atm

anyone?

Mines in Vic if you know anyone coming your way who could grab it, used condition, wood slats need sand and stain, or leave ratty if preferred... $300

LukasForeals - December 16th, 2013 at 09:56 PM

$300 for a ratty one when i can get a brand new one for $330 delivered from the states :/ don't think so lol

pfillery - December 16th, 2013 at 11:21 PM

Thing is you get what you pay for. For $330 posted from the USA given their freight costs you aren't going to get much. And I always laugh when people say "I'm not paying your asking price because I can buy one for $xxx" - if that's the case then just buy the new one. And wasn't it $400+ according to your OP?

Chances are type3disease is selling a better one than you will get from overseas which is probably in pieces and needs assembly meaning it will support about 30kg. I've carried a 4m kayak at highway speeds on the Harding rack. Solid and all welded. A good rack will cost you more. I'm sure the new one at that price will be ratty in no time. Quality costs. So does patina.

If you want ratty and cheap buy an extra large dog bed frame and a pack of tex screws:lol: or weld one up yourself.

if i had a welder, i would
