CC Super Bug - December 27th, 2013 at 11:10 AM

Hey there, anyone got a working square VDO L Bug clock for sale?

Lucky Phil - December 27th, 2013 at 07:25 PM

Wow! Didn't know they existed.
I want one for mine now, too!
Where were they fitted?
Can anyone post a picture of one fitted?

MISS VDUB - December 27th, 2013 at 07:36 PM

Joel - December 27th, 2013 at 07:45 PM

Bizarre - December 28th, 2013 at 07:55 AM

One is rare as and one is not
Pretty sure the with is the rare one as mine didnt have one

Took me a few years to find mine at a Bad Buggers Show day at Penrith

German eBay would be your friend or occasionally SBO

They were fairly common in the late 70s US cabrios so there is always a few forsale on thesamba classifieds.

3 on there at the moment, all around $140-150 mark so you would have to want one pretty bad, only 1 has a second hand.

Hey there guys, my 75 has a factory fitted clock, it also has every factory switch filled with factory switches, it has Driving lights, A single Fog, and Heated rear window, the car must have been a run out with all the bells and whistles fitted.

made in 7/75 so its likely its one of the last supers make.

Very cool mate, mine was built 4/75 but is a '74 model, no rack & pinion steering. Seeing as we both are in Melbourne I would love to catch up and check out your Bug one day.

If it's an Aussie built Lbug that stuff has been added by a PO, it was never offered here.

Got a pic of your compliance plate?
Theres a few Jap import Lbugs getting around Oz that have that stuff standard.

Notch65s - January 21st, 2014 at 05:45 PM

My uncle who worked for VW at that period informs me that they were factory fitted. The Car is Australian Compliance, pics are attached, The fog is no longer present, but driving lights and heated rear window are.

Notch65s - January 21st, 2014 at 05:49 PM

pics of options, Please observe Thick impact strip on bumper.

Notch65s - January 21st, 2014 at 05:50 PM

options

Notch65s - January 21st, 2014 at 05:53 PM

all wiring to lights was not connected, but when all was connect it all works as it should, Driving lights come on with high beam and go off when low beam is on, when connected fog light (bracket still present on lower side of front bumper) it only worked when low beam was on and went off when high beam come on, as it should, there is also original wiring that is present that works for a rear fog that is no longer present.

ah yeah I've seen that bug on ebay or gumtree.

Its had a owner who obviously collected overseas parts, the rear defrost switch is from a Mk1 Golf not an Lbug, thats why the symbol is upside down

Things like the clock, foglight switches and 1303 badge was never used in Aus, but easy enough to find on ebay etc I;ve managed to find them for mine too,

The rubber strps on the bumper were standard on Aus 75 and 76 models.

Notch65s - January 21st, 2014 at 06:59 PM

all switches have the red lights on the top as all beetles did, and they all work.

Notch65s - January 21st, 2014 at 07:01 PM

the 1303 badge the previous guy added, clock is dated 3/75 which checks as to when it would have been made.

Notch65s - January 21st, 2014 at 07:05 PM

justy spoke to my uncle and he reckons that the golf switch would of been what they would of used

Joel - January 21st, 2014 at 07:19 PM

VW didn't half arse things,
if a 1303 left the factory with a heated rear window it had the proper 1303 switch with icon the right way up.

http://www.affordableclassicsinc.com/ClassicsPgs/144-4472_IMG.JPG

If someone just bought a heated rear window and chucked it in later on in life (which is not uncommon) the mk1 Golf switches are much easier to find in Aus.
THe pilot lights in them power off the switch, they work when the switch has power and is turned on,

The clocks like yours with the second hand were only made for the first few years of 1303 production, the second hand was dropped because of how much it drained the battery so its not usuaul to see those style with 73-75 dates on them.
it probably came from the same bug that donated its 1303 badge

Notch65s - January 21st, 2014 at 11:34 PM

its a big job to fit the heated rear window being that the wiring runs in a not so easy to get to place, and the original roof lining is still in place. the switch very well could have been replaced at some point.
