GONE [Vic]: Light CHEVIOT mag. wheels for BUG
BRUTUS - January 19th, 2014 at 04:34 PM

For Sale - Vic.

Matching identical set of light-weight "Cheviot" alloys, 6JJ x 14. The sort with 5 oval shaped cut-outs, like on Valiant Chargers from early 70's. Quite old (poss. made 1983 if the number stamped is the date), but in excellent cond., NO cracks, chips, bends etc.. You can see why they are lighter than many alloy wheels, due to the 'hollowed out" style on the insides.
Balanced on Insides, ie. weights not attached to outer rim (to avoid chips, scratches, corrosion).
Suit 4 stud Beetle, or possibly type 3 etc... No interference with brakes, suspension on 4 stud beetle.
Includes set of 16 chromed wheel studs (14 as shown + 2 slightly different), steel washers to suit, AND 4 locking wheel studs of correct length... all in V.G. cond.
Also 4 black centre caps to fit (old, in fair cond., they fit.)

Contact by email for phone no., or by PM. (preferably!).

Nice light wheels to go with them. No need to repair, clean. No need to balance. No need to find hard-to-get studs or even centre caps.

why don't you use them? and any idea on offset, how do they sit with the guards?

BRUTUS - May 6th, 2014 at 11:11 AM

No longer required. Pic's show how they fit inside the usual old-style somewhat wider f'glass guards. [As shown, have no spacers fitted.] Have slightly more offset outwards (about 1/4 to 1/2 inch) than some other mag's, so good for beetle. [Late beetle had the greatest outwardly offset std.wheels.]

rear might be ok, but front wouldnt fit under stock guards with a bit of low :(

BRUTUS - May 7th, 2014 at 11:51 AM

I see, yes with stock guards the old rough rule was 5-1/2" width max., front & rear; and not too wide for the tyres, eg. 185 wide was generally reckoned to be OK. It does depend on the exact offset of the wheel as well, and they all seemed to vary a bit. These seem a bit more offset out as mentioned, there is a number stamped in them, maybe that is the offset.
