standard petrol and diesel models have no center console at all and a clock instead of a tacho, so they definately dont have 2 extra gauges

All Australian Golfs (LS,GLS & GLD) have a console. Diesels have a clock and petrols have a tacho.

The standard base model Golf was never sold here.
