The vacuum advance I need is to suit an Australian made Bosch distributor for a 1971 1600 twin port.
The Distributor has stamped on the side "Made in Australia" and the number designation as follows "U-ZV / JU 4R3"
The Vacuum advance unit has no numbers on it at all, and only has the Bosch symbol.
Some people may say "just chuck a 009 in it". The Beetle is still all original, and stock, and I would rather keep it that way, and not have to deal
with a cheap distributor that does not suit the engine.
Pete I'm pretty sure the standard SVDA dizzy that most supplier sell new is the right one for 1600TP.
If your looking for that actual part number we can have a look in the pile we have and try and find one. But vac cans tend to rot out after 20 years
This one any good for you? It just came off my 73.
no number on the arm going into the dizzy?
Hi
You can tell if it the correct one they have a plastic hose connection, the German ones had steel ones.
I'm surprised that it doesn't have a dual vac advance on that model

Hi
The VW approved alteration was a main and air jet change jet change and fitting a single vacuum can to the original dizzy. I'm pretty sure that the
dual vacuum can dizzys were German.
The timing was also altered from 5⁰ AFTDC to 7⁰ BTDC. The dual vacuum carbs had vacuum port pointing rearward
Steve
It has 135 stamped on the arm..
The arm on our vac advance has no stamping numbers at all. Someone gave me one with 122 on the arm, but it does not fit.
I will get a picture of our one.
If you need anymore pics of mine let me know.
Pictures of distributor and advance unit. It has no numbers on it, not even on the arm inside. I have taken it out to look all over it.
is there a part number on the dizzy? You might need a magnet to see it edit sorry mirror
That looks like an earlier one. Looks similar to one on a 1300sp I have. I'll look at that one.
Does the dizzy have centrifugal advance?
The only part number is
The Distributor has stamped on the side "Made in Australia" and the number designation as follows "U-ZV / JU 4R3"
But does it have centrifugal advance as in can you twist the rotor button to produce advance
looks like vaccum only 1300/1500 SP distributor. According to OldVolksHome (US website so may not be entirely accurate). That distributor has the
following specs.

Can Use: VW 111-905-205M, Bosch 0231 147 002 or 111-905-205N, 0231 137 005
Replacement: VW 315-905-205B, Bosch 0231 137 031
Points: 01 009
Condensor: 02 007

Cap: 03 001
Coil: 00 001 (Blue Coil: 00 016)
Vacuum Can: 07 016 (NLA)
Ignition Wires: 09 003
Spark Plug: W8AC
Timing Set At:: 10deg BTDC Static or @ 800-950rpm w/strobe w/vacuum hose disconnected and plugged
Advance/Retard Range: Vacuum Advance Only: 5-11deg @ 1.3 In. Hg, 23-28deg @ 3.5 In. Hg
I'm thinking the same thing kaiisons, it looks like 1500 Beetle or early Type 3 dizzy.
A proper vacuum and centrifugal advance dizzy would really wake the car up.
That model Beetle should have had a jet change as well as single vacuum can fitted.
From memory it should run a 60Z air and 125-130 main jet , VW did this change because of the shocking fuel consumption these cars were getting
It is a vacuum only unit, the rotor does not have the movement. I have an old 1800 bus distributor here, and that has the weights and springs in it,
so I see what you mean.
So for a 1600 twin port the replacement complete distributor would be as follows
Replacement: VW 315-905-205B, Bosch 0231 137 031
What carb does it have because distributors and carbs are matched moreso than the engines.
All over now.
I bought a replacement Vacuum unit 113905205A
Dropped it in, guessed the timing, and it started first pop and runs like a dream. Actually accellerates when you put your foot down now.
