WTB - Fuel Reserve Rebuild Kit
jobie - January 19th, 2015 at 04:43 PM

Hi All,

I have a 56 beetle that i have started working on and have taken the fuel tank out of and found that the fuel tap is leaking.

Can anyone tell me if I can get a kit in Melbourne? Or PM me if you have one that's surplus to your needs.

Cheers

Joel

Can not help with a kit. But I rebuild mine some years ago. The original gasket under the tap was cork. But I cut a new rubber one from an old fuel pump diapham. Not saying it was easy but it has done the job!

Thanks Graham. I may need to improvise

OK now the main brass inlet tube has something blocking it (no wonder it wouldn't start). Ayone now how to get this out?

If you are talking about the tap end.
Should have two brass tubes, the short one is "reserve" position. There should be an enclosed tube of very fine brass mesh as a filter over the tubes. As to clearing the tube, soak in fuel for a few days then use compressed air.
Or get rough and use some fishing trace wire.
This is all best done with the tap dismantled.
