Chasing a genuine radio for my beetle

1303Steve - February 5th, 2015 at 09:03 PM

They didn't come with a radio, just hole with a blanking plate so any period radio would do

beetlecab - February 6th, 2015 at 08:21 AM

Thanks....
Inthe "Approved accessories book" along with many other things it shows a VW radio. it is a Australian fold out brochure.
You are right but would like a VW radio if they exist! Would also like the insect screen....Rob

1303Steve - February 6th, 2015 at 10:18 AM

can you scan the radio pictures from the brochure, it might jog someones memory

beetlecab - February 6th, 2015 at 12:08 PM

Hi Mate
will try tomorrow. Its a interesting fold out brochure stamped with the dealer stamp where the car was bought from. edmond Best Footscray Melbounre. There are five "formula " packs shown then things for saftey, , protection, looks, convience, comfort The radio comes under comfort... Love all this stuff
The radio shows the VW sign then all tranistor"

I worked in dealers in 70s, it was usually up to the sales team as to what was fitted, usually not a genuine radio but you never know

beetlecab - February 6th, 2015 at 02:44 PM

yeh..extra profit i suppose put in a radio according to the budget!I just like factory type stuff. Don't know where i could get a rear screen with a heated rear window factory? bug screen?
thanks Steve.....

AA003 - February 6th, 2015 at 03:00 PM

The radios were genuine VW Australia not VW.

Remember the chequered gutter trim? The mesh screens, radio aerial, chrome vent covers, stone guards, seat covers etc.

beetlecab - February 6th, 2015 at 03:04 PM

Yes....the brochure has GT stripes.. Sports exaust pipes first aid kit you name it...even a VW fire extinguisher. I really want a radio!

1303Steve - February 6th, 2015 at 03:54 PM

I have 2 heated screens but I dont want top sell them, try Vintage Vee Dub or VW Heritage.

I used to have chequered bonnet bib but it was lost years ago

type3disease - February 6th, 2015 at 04:36 PM

There was a near NOS insect screen for sale on facebooks vw buy swap sell page - try sending a message to Mark Krapp on Facebook... Aka jnr356 on here...

I might have a dealer/VWoA radio here I'll have a look for you....

Cheers Ben

The one with the 4 buttons looks close to correct for a 72.

It wasn't my intention to try and sell it to you, it was more to help identify. But, if you like it, and it's what you want, I will get back to you ASAP. I want to test it first and make sure it works properly.
The HIGH tone button (far right) was missing when I bought the car. I replaced it with a plastic wallplug and painted it black, so it's not perfect.
Do you want the speaker that was with it, it's in the top picture?
All the best, Rob.

beetlecab - February 10th, 2015 at 10:42 AM

Hi Mate
Can you give me a idea on the $ ?
No not the speaker just the radio.
Is that your white car in the pics?
Thanks Rob
