Hi All,
Chasing left and right heater channel ends. (From door forwards.)
Can buy new, but shipping and waiting from various suppliers is excessive.
Hoping someone is cutting up a car or has left overs from a resto.
Am in Brisvegas and can cut myself if required.
Thanks,
Anthony.
Buy good quality new ones less work in the long run
S/H ones will be had it
VW Heritage has them...
I am also awaiting some to come in at a VW supplier...
You could buy a whole heater channel which most suppliers have in stock, then chop it up?
Cheers
I have a LHS cut from an early bug in good shape. I was intending to use but I have never got round to it.
If Strogger doesn't take it, im next
Hi,
I am not sure what you are doing by chopping and installing second hand heater channels but my gut feeling is unless you had some mitigating reason
you'd be better off buying a new good quality period correct complete heater channel. I recently went on the hunt for a heater channel for my '56
oval with some surprising examples of varying quality and what I would call generic ( non period specific) heater channels that were supposed to cover
a range of years. However there is no way I was going to put something period incorrect and permanent like a heater channel into the car.
Interestingly one example was supposed to be of Danish supply but upon inspection the quality was poor and I really wondered where it's true origin
lay? It looked and felt tinny with ripples in the pressing and simple cutouts for vents rather than curved edges as per original VW.
I finally settled on KlassicFab heater channel which is a quality pressing and period specific. They heater gills were In the correct location closer
to the firewall on '56 rather than "A"- pillar and even have the correct shape. Also see they make earlier year channels that have the grid mesh
heat outlet.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do but if you are after a decent heater channel definitely check out the Klassic Fab ones.
Cheers
Hi guys,
Have ordered ex o/s, so thanks 555bug, but I'm ok.
Idea is behind using old was 2 fold.
1st - same reason as I'm doing the work myself and not paying a pro. Yep it's $$$$
2nd - read everywhere using original steel is better than repro, regardless of supplier.
For mine, gone cheaper repro, from o/s as I want a low priced DIY option and couldn't find what I wanted in OZ.
Cheers all.
Do you mean the closing plate on the bottom of the channel with the floorpan captive nuts welding to them?
If so I've a pair I removed from a brand new pair of channels as I fitted the correct panel for an Oval from Hookys panels. anyhoo, if that's what
you're after then I'm in north Brissy so $40 for the pair and they're yours
