Are you still chasing one of these?

weren't these called ambulance fans that were in the early kombis, and fairly rare but maybe later kombis had them???
and I thought that late beetles had blower fans , as they had little switches with a fan on them on the dash.. two speed???

"Ambulance fans" I think refers to Bay window era kombi's and were dash fans (for incoming fresh air). They were called this as they were not common in colder climate countries but ambulances had the for some reason. They were reasonably common in Australia.

The fan pictured is the heater fan, supplements the air supplied by the engine fan (this lives in the engine bay)

The later L bus had dash fans also, but were for incoming fresh air, not the heater. The factory option on beetles (well all air cooled VW's) were the petrol fired Eberspacher heaters.
