Looking for complete instrument cluster. It's not able to be fixed. Apparently the IC chip has most likely failed.
Also: If you know of any wreckers with a stash of T4's please let me know.
Ive tried a bunch: Brookvale spare in Smithfield, Dynon wreckers Melbourne, ASV Euro Car Parts, JJ auto parts lansvale, VW King,
Edit:
I've pulled it apart looked for cracked solder dry joints an topped up solder on the pins i could see with no luck and sprayed cleaner through the
plug to see if it was just a contact problem but it has got the better of me.
Speedo is electronic. Odometerr is digital LCD screen.
If anyone knows of a decent one for sale or a repair service Sydney metro please give me a heads up.
I fixed one last year (erratic tacho and temp gauge), you just have to re-solder all the tiny solder joints, the cracks that cause the
problems are more or less invisible!
I think also ther is a transistor (possibly?) top right ish, quite chunky, that is a known cause re solder it as well (might have a heat sink
attatched)
Cheers
Dave
Yeah I got nothing on this, it was erratic for a long time but fuel, temp, speedo and tacho all don't work.
The only thing that works is the lcd screen but I think it's only working from stored memory and power, not actually ticking over total kilometers.
I'll try soldering, thought a continuity test would weed out any cracks between the plug pins and the tracks on the pcb.
I believe this cluster is later model than all the DIY pics on the net. It's not really designed to pull apart and six pin voltage regulator they
talk about is not where it should be. That's about where my electronics expertise stops. I'll try blindly soldering whatever I can to see if I get
lucky but I don't like my chances.
