I am looking to buy an engine lid lock for a 68 beetle. It needs to suit the "M" key profile. If you are not sure what yours is you can tell if it
is an "M" lock because it will be printed on the body of the lock along with some numbers.
I am in Brisbane if that helps.
Thanks

Hi
Luke Pell had one on EBay, it was the later type with a 1 screw and a tang, you want the early type with 3 screws. You can make the later type fit
without much trouble. I think all engine lid locks had the M code.

Yes ,it doesn't matter if they had three two or one screw, its simple to make them fit....
Whatever the key number is, it won't be the same as yours...
so it shouldn't matter what number is on it...
All My Beetle keys have the VW number stamped on them...

Mine is a 3 screw lock. The numbers don't matter as I am going to get all the locks keyed alike. Trouble is I have a "K" lock now for the engine
lid but the ignition and door locks are "M" so that's why I am looking for another lock.
The key for the "M" is a different profile so you can't just change the tumblers (or whatever) inside to match because the key will not go in the
slot.
Crazy george had the M style on the 1 screw locks but K on the 3 screw so I am still looking if anyone can help.
