moonlite6t6beetle - November 20th, 2004 at 07:59 PM

ok, let me explain something here to ya mate.. on a 1 to 1 basis.

This aluminum fuel tank, is it a joke, or are u serious. To me, and it may be just me, it looks like apeice of aluminum, with some mig wire. Now to go in depth about aluminum. Aluminuim cannot be mig welded. It must be tig welded. Which used electrolosis heating and uses a aluminuim dipping method much like oxy welding to weld. Now i will agree that there are alluminium fuel tanks for beetle. For example, look at this beuty on the chirco website...

http://www.chirco.com/cgi-bin/chirco.storefront/419f15a9033f1290273f407720150...

Somehow, i am finding it difficult to see how this "alluminium fuel tank" works, please explain, as i am still interested.

Andy42 - November 20th, 2004 at 08:20 PM

By The Way Aluminium CAN be mig welded and I have seen it done MANY times. Although for fuel tanks yes tig is the prefered method as it is a less porous weld then the mig.
You can also buy custom made alloy fuel tanks from Custom Offroad.

Do the assembly instructions come with the kit @ $190?
It looks pretty difficult to construct so I'd need the instructions......
