wiseoldub - December 8th, 2005 at 05:46 PM

i'm pretty keen as the motor in our caravelle is a little suss! so this is one of the kind of conversion preferences people have for kombi's eh! and free delivery to the east coast to eh? fantastic! just gotta get a quote for fitting it up! what else will i need to fit it to a caravelle? anyone?
cheers josh

seagull - December 8th, 2005 at 08:03 PM

Josh , the conversion section is your place .
yes I can deliver to there , no problems .

helbus - December 9th, 2005 at 12:15 AM

Yep EJ22 is good for bus conversion. We had fun tonight having squirts in the bus on Lygon St and it certainly turned heads.

almost

wiseoldub - December 13th, 2005 at 07:55 PM

hey dude, i am still thinkin pretty seriously about this but i am a little put of by two things! i don't know what else i will need to fit this to the caravelle[ie gearbox adapter, wiring harness...] and the klm's on it! 280 is a little high. i know you said it pulls well but my 2;1 pulls well and it had a blown head gasket. i am just a little 'once bitten, twice shy ' i guess!
cheers josh

Brad - December 13th, 2005 at 09:45 PM

280 is not high for an EJ 22 . I have one with 485 000 on it and she still goes fine. If serviced they ill get into the 500's without issue, the same can not be said for Ej 20 and 25's

What else will you need:

Adapter and flywheel - $660
Clutch kit maybe - $350
Modified loom - $330 exchange
Misc hoses and clamps - $150
Custom Cross member - $330
Modified sump kit if you want any clearance - $440
Modified air intake elbow T3 - $44
Modified accel cable - $44
Maybe header tank depending on which way you decide to plumb it - $220
Some sort of VSS solution - $185

About 2 days of you life and a few dollars in phone calls when you get stuck on something.

This engine with free delivery is cheap if it comes with a/c comp and alternator then it is a great deal. If I didn't have at least 10 of them on the floor at the moment then I would buy it myself.

EJ 22 is a much better engine than the 2.1 VW water boxer... it even cools without eating head studs and you can service it every 10 000 km and it is happy ....
