Where o where can I buy SuperBeetle vents
helbus - December 7th, 2005 at 04:37 PM

It is a 3/71 'S' superbeetle

The hard bit is we need these internal vents for the new beetle we bought. Apparently later superbug ones are different. Where can we get? I have tried forum sponsors and they say it is a one year only part.

Has anyone fitted later superbug ones?

As shown in this pic

i might have a set as i bought a set for my early 72 sbug. just got to talk to the old man to see if he still has them and whether the are the two or 3 a side

Bizarre - December 7th, 2005 at 04:57 PM

I think beerdoc went through this on the rebuild for his daughter??

Do a scan through members rides. (or i will)
Pretty sure i commented on this in his ride - cause i didnt think you could get them and it was original. He said you could get them

helbus - December 7th, 2005 at 05:11 PM

The problem is it is all one piece.

So this is where I need to find out if the two piece ones will cover the same hole? If not, I need the originals!

Hi

I remember someone was making fibreglass ones on a forum I visit, cant remember which one, maybe Superbeetlesonly.com

Steve

ragtopp - December 7th, 2005 at 08:30 PM

Dont know if they still stock them but some years ago i got fibreglass ones from Volksbahn in Pendle Hill in western Sydney. They arent available new anymore. Another bloke in New Zealand makes them and he is advertising in Ultra Vw of a couple of months ago.

toplessbug - December 7th, 2005 at 09:03 PM

peter i tried world wide a few years ago to no avail but there is now a bloke in n.z reproducing them, originals are all buggered now as the material they were made from had no uv stabilization:beer:beer:beer

helbus - December 7th, 2005 at 09:11 PM

So there are none in Australia anyone knows of in Fibreglass?

Has anyone got a copy of Ultra VW with this NZ guys number in it?

I knew I was not crazy! I always do a fair bit of homework before I ask for help, but this one got me stumped.

toplessbug - December 8th, 2005 at 05:43 PM

if you have got time on your side try a search thru the samba i know i found them somewhere listed about 6 months ago but by that stage after a 3 year search i gave up and redid the roof liner and just omitted them completly and unless you are a 71 super aficonado you would never know, they were only on south african and aus models for 10 months.

beerdoc - December 8th, 2005 at 07:09 PM

Late ones are Different they are 3 off each side

I was goinig to cover up (not use)with new liner but Dean at volkspower had a set (thats about all he had though)

I found second hand are too brittle

Good Luck:beer

ragtopp - December 8th, 2005 at 09:15 PM

The guy in New Zealand's email address is genevieve.r@xtra.co.nz or phone +64 34 533332
They are the ones that Volksbahn used to sell. I had a hell of a time getting them in. The next car i did the hoodliner and like the others say i covered over them.

Thanks a million ragtopp.

The contact is good, and they are in production and will be available early next year.

bugeyedbabe - December 9th, 2005 at 05:59 PM

wanna know whats worst...

we scrapped a 71 super bug, which had them in, and i literally just sent it to the wreckers...an hour ago!

And I know their the exact ones ur looking for, cause i remember thinking they werent gunna fit my other superbug, so left them there...in prefect nick! Whats worst...the wreckers scrap everything out of them when it comes to a bug, cause the bugs here bring nice dollars...

helbus - December 9th, 2005 at 06:32 PM

Arrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhh

bugeyedbabe - December 9th, 2005 at 06:36 PM

toplessbug - December 9th, 2005 at 10:25 PM

dont bother trying to get the old ones out,, i have tried on numerous occassionsto no avail ,as i said the uv has stuffed them and they look fantastic but as soon as you put a finger on them they crumble, get the repo grp ones and life will be wonderful:beer:beer:beer:beer

bugeyedbabe - December 9th, 2005 at 11:27 PM

vw54 - December 11th, 2005 at 10:42 AM

yeah they were one year only and dont interchange with the later type vents

they have not been reproduced.

You should cover the holes with the headliner trim then the problem will go away.

helbus - December 11th, 2005 at 03:05 PM

I cant cover them with the headliner as it stops where the vent starts!

There are four slot holes under the vents!

The original headliner is still in the car and has not one mark, scratch, tear, anything. Fleur didn't even realise there are different sections of the headlining with dots painted on and holes punched in :)

No way this car is far too neat and original. like a one owner grandma car.

All we want to do is lower it 4 inches, BRM's, 1916, twin carbs, 10 speaker stereo etc...

But the headlining must stay original :)
