Wanted: Sliding Window Part for 74 Kombi
Hubb - December 12th, 2005 at 05:02 PM

Howdy,

I need 2 of the bit at the end of the arrow with the notches cut out that works together with the black bit on the glass to hold the window closed (and open at various places). The aluminium is so worn in mine that one of the windows opens and closes by itself when driving. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ciao
Joe

That is actually part of the window, not really replacable.
Not only that it's probably not the cause of the problem. Have a look from the outside, there should be two nylon bushes in the aluminium frame of the sliding glass. Their at the front/rear of the bottom edge.
These are often worn or missing causing the glass to drop down and the latch no longer hooks in the grooves in the bar your arrow points to.
I have not found a source for these guides yet, but they do still make those windows new, so must be available some where.
I made a dodgy fix for mine, but not exactly nice.

Hope that is of some help!
Richard

The windows don't seem to have dropped. The actual teeth are worn and rounded, which pushes the black bit up allowing the window to open. It seems to only be attached to the rest of the frame by 2 pop-rivets and some silicone. If this isnt the case then i guess a dodgy fix will be my only option too.

With the whole window out that bar can be replaced, but does involve a fair amount of work. I'm not sure if it can be replaced installed in the bus. If anything all you need to do is file the rounded bit square again then??
The inside of the latch is also tapered which is why the aluminium rounds off like that.
Grab the latch part of the window and push it up, looking at your picture I'd guess it has dropped somewhat.
