Hey folks, I'm looking for a late split ('67) indicator mechanism, the actual bit that the stalk goes into which attaches to the steering column.
And both case halves if possible. My indicators don't stay in either left or right (up or down) position, and trying to manually hold the indicator,
steer, and possibly change gear is pretty tricky! Thanks for any leads (oh and yeah Repco hasn't got 'em ;-)
Cheers, Aurel.
its a simple fix....remove the casting halves get some 60 grit paper on a sheet of glass and sand down the clamping halves this gives more bit to the already worn steering coloum...saves buying a second hand one with the same prob cheers steve
Hmm, sounds interesting. The thing is, the castings clamp to the steering column just fine (firmly), it's the stalk itself that won't stay where
it's put. There seems to be a little pin (centrally located) on the mechanism against which a small lever rests when you push/pull the indicator
up/down. This pin looks like it's worn: the edges have rounded. This seems to no longer hold the indicators in indicating position. They just pop
back off as soon as you stop pushing/pulling them.
Now sanding the castings would move the release (or hold?) triggers closer to the curved plate on the steering wheel, is this what they need?
Hmm, I think I'll try a non-destructive method of testing this first, then if it looks promising I'll go ahead and file (sand!).
Thanks for the help! Much appreciated. But I have another bus that needs the things anyway, so I still need 'em if anyone's got 'em.
EDIT: oh I found that WolfsbuergWest has them new, but they say '57-'65 busses. Not being familiar with the intimate details of year-by-year
changes, would the sizes be the same on the '67 (like the steering column dia.)? 12V ('67 thing) shouldn't be a problem yeah? But - are these
supposedly pre-'65 ones self cancelling and all that? So much to ask, I'm sorry! Thanks again dudes.

how diiff are these from ovals
are they self cancelling
but the guts may be interchangeable ??
joe3 has one with a big price drop for late 50's beetle
Ovals? Mine's a Type 2. I would have thought they'd be quite different from beetle bits. Yeah my bus one's are self-cancelling - provided the
steering wheel's the right type.
Cheers, Aurel.
