71superbug - February 15th, 2006 at 04:08 AM

gearbox can be lifted by one person without too much hassle..will weigh it up and ask them anyway...always good to know.

ragged - February 15th, 2006 at 09:52 PM

Type 3 gear boxes are the same strength wise as a Beetle box, although the Type 3 single side plate gearboxes have a 4.125 ring and pinion, 'L' bug have a 3.88, they are no stronger.

t2 - February 16th, 2006 at 10:13 PM

does that mean it has a higher top speed with less revs if i went for a t3 box?

Menangler - February 17th, 2006 at 08:06 AM

No, the gear box with the 3.88 R&P has a lower top gear to make up for the higher R&P, so it is about the same, 1st 2nd and 3rd are a bit taller, as they are the same ratios as the 4.125 R&P gearbox.
Hope that makes sence!
