I've sent you a U2U Chris

bajachris88 - April 17th, 2006 at 12:35 PM

Will bring replies and and rest this arvo or this evening.

The steering box? Well, it steers, When we pushed the baja up the hill of my backyard, it turned alright. Tells me exact testing procedures, and i will be more than happy to do it for ya. Its all new to me, sorry Nick

Cheers seagull, yeah the starter works beautifully, think it will be a keeper. :P

Anthiron - April 17th, 2006 at 12:42 PM

ok whel you steered the bug around was there freeplay in the steering? as in could u turn the steering wheel a distance without it moving the wheels? was the steering stiff?

im not exactly sure how you could check it to be honest. because u can adjust them but as u tighten them up the steering gets stiffer and it wears faster.

bajachris88 - April 17th, 2006 at 07:59 PM

will bolt on the old column, and wheel tommorroz and give u the news. Cheers

Anthiron - April 18th, 2006 at 11:08 AM

do you know how to adjust it?

if u bolt on the coloum and adjust it untill there is no play in the box and see how stiff it is or if u can even adjust out the play. this will tell u if its a goodun or not.

bajachris88 - April 18th, 2006 at 12:26 PM

hi Nick. Just tested it, without any adjusting, and shes fine, very minimal freeplay, without any major stiffness.

(thanx also to jace (manx_xtc) for some testing tips too)

Anthiron - April 18th, 2006 at 12:36 PM

how much is very minimal?

can u try tightening the adjuster screw a little so there is no free play and tell me how it goes then?

i really want one that has no play at all cause im trying to get my steering perfect.

bajachris88 - April 18th, 2006 at 02:22 PM

Literally none. Like, when u turn one way, then the other, it kicks in instantly like, slowly for bout a mill then fast, but doesn't have that necessary 'free play' where jack all goes on. One way or the other, its movin. (well, from what i observe) didn't really have to adjust much either.

Its good to finally find a mechanical component from my 67 that actually works and is complete.

Nick, if you really want it perfect you need to buy a new one.
going through it step by step with chris there is very little play from what i can gather with the one he has

Anthiron - April 18th, 2006 at 02:47 PM

yeah it sounds good. how much do u want for it?

i know jace but new things cost lots of money:yes:

bajachris88 - April 18th, 2006 at 02:50 PM

$40, or parts. depends what u got.

Am willing to negociate price if u don't like.
