Where can I get hold of the soft black tubing used for the wiring loom in an early beetle in various sizes? Not interested in the grooved stuff used in EFI cars. Thanks

I used a lot of heatshrink tubing in My Beetle but I have NOT seen any shiny black stuff yet...
Usually all colours.... and matt black.....

I did use some large shiny black tubing that had come from an Auto Electrician.... sale...
So, Maybe they would sell it... at least some of them would... the older businesses...
it was comparable with the original type tubing about 3/4 inch hole or 20mm approx...

Yep, Tandy where I work also sells the heat shrink tubing, comes in a pack as a mix of sizes, Was just plain black material. simply feed ur wires through, and just get a lighter orsomehting and it shrinks.

Dicksmith stock it as well. its an irriation cause u got to feed the wires through the tubes, be great it it could rap around, and u could melt the side of the tube to the other side, but i don't know if that can happen.

even though its thin it doesn't melt when touched by a hot soldering iron.... it smokes so You know You're doing it..

I used the soldering iron to heat the shrinkwrap on terminal ends on the end of wires...
You need to heat both sides....

For the larger stuff I used the Wife's hair dryer....

Its best not to fold it in the middle if You are going to try to pull wires thru it ...

The larger black shiny tubing was good to pull wires thru.
although I did use armourall in it.. for lubrication...
naturally depends on how many wires You want in it...

Shrinkwrap is expensive when You use lots of it....
Cheapest places are Dick Smiths or Jaycar...

For more even shrinking you should a heat gun or a hair dryer would work also.

you could try an electrical wholesaler to get a better price than Tandy/DickSmith

I actually did buy some from an electrical wholesaler and it was very expensive...
It didn't have any prices on them....
and I was buying some electrical conduit and fittings and
I was getting them dirt cheap....
but the shrinkwrap was a different story...:o:o

so back to Dick Smiths I went.....

I should have kept all the receipts for the shrinkwrap and wires cables and connectors...
they would have added up to a bit of money.....

but I was just buying them when I needed them..
not in one go... which would have shocked Me I think...

I was soldering for a long time......
went thru a few soldering irons too....

Shrinkwrap comes in different grades, expensive stuff has a glue inside which seals the tubing when heated

Thanks for all the replys guys, yeah I'm aware of the heatshrink but was hoping to get some of that old style shiny pvc tubing like 68AutoBug mentioned. I'll keep looking I guess.
