Wtd: Carbon Fibre bonnet and Engine Lid.......inspired by Dumone's ride
Craig Torrens - June 25th, 2006 at 08:41 PM

So where can I get a Carbon Fibre engine lid and bonnet made for my 68 bug? Love the look of Dumone's oval style boot lid on his bug and thought a bonnet and engine lid would look kind of 'boy racer' on my 68 bug.

Does JVL do this kind of stuff?

How much is it worth to get these items made?

Anyone?

Cheers
Craig t

ohhh Craigy, you want????????

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c365/dumone/carbonfibrebonnet.jpg

yep, JVL can set up the mould and get them done. Sales go through Luke Pell

We only have the mould that mine came off at the moment, so a good condition deck lid would be required to set it all up.

if you have a decent set of german running boards, with no rubbers, we could start doing them too-anyone want to donate???????

now for the bad part, at least $600! for the deck lids,
double that for a bonnet

I am trying to get hold of a good deck lid in Perth to make a mould from .

I can do this but Dave over here is set up + he makes Surf boards and has the hands for it .

what is the 68 Craig running a subaru ?

71superbug - June 26th, 2006 at 04:04 AM

anyone done a carbon fibre one that is not the W decklid.

as i have a good condition decklid (the one with the vents) as i think maintaining the stock super look would be a bit different with fibre. most people seem to go the w lid.

An thony

shiftyvw - June 26th, 2006 at 07:29 PM

Craig Torrens - June 27th, 2006 at 09:40 PM

Dumone, can you get 76 style vented bootlids done as well as the later bonnets?

Seagull, do you have a contact as well who can do this.

These parts WILL be used so I'm after them;)

seagull - June 27th, 2006 at 09:55 PM

I sure do mate

what is the bit on the far side on the lid ? for gauges ?

I need a rear VW deck lid perth guys ? any one ( just a loan )

Man I wish you did not put this post up !
bad ideas

VWCOOL - June 27th, 2006 at 09:59 PM

lol... I have perfect 76 lid, with the extra vent hole under the light, should I find out shipping costs?!

hellbugged - June 27th, 2006 at 10:37 PM

well guys, you wont get much out of us till mid August. i will get the ball rolling tho and find out.

making the molds is the time consuming and expensive bit. access to the needed panels not the problem (sorry to dissapoint, but the bonnet pic was from another site)

keep in mind to get the mold set up and running, a run of at least six needs to be pre sold to make them even remotely affordable, but then it's nice to keep numbers down and not loose the custom look you were seeking in the first place-hhhhhmmmmm

Craig, you are welcome to have a closer look at mine come August, after all it's easy to take off and throw around, being mounted on HOODJAX

they are only one layer of carbon fibre, with fiberglass backing, and still bloody expensive!

Neil, keep us informed, i'd go after a set of running boards first, there is a definate market for them, and would be cheaper and easier to transport from over there (make sure you do em off GERMAN ones!)...talk to your mate and have an estimate at what the production costs would be

71superbug - June 29th, 2006 at 02:49 AM

Anthony

hellbugged - June 29th, 2006 at 06:32 AM

the vents you are all chasing are going to be very, very hard to do. and near impossible to make em look right.

Craig Torrens - June 30th, 2006 at 10:28 PM

Ok, maybe I just stay with the bonnet.

seagull - July 1st, 2006 at 01:28 AM

The vents would be hard .Lucky he has a vacuum system there

I drop down mid next week & have a chat

hellbugged - July 1st, 2006 at 09:09 AM
