gday
just throwing this out there. Anyone have a narrowed beam for a type 3 for sale. It's for a 69?
John
Type 3 beams can't be narrowed as easily as the type 1 beams. I just Googled this and the only one I could find was a type 1 style beam converted to fit a type 3 mount
What he said. I think there are a couple out there, but very rare and a lot of work. Hopefully someone in OZ will start making type1 beams converted
for type3 some time. KCW are pretty free with their info, so I'm sure they'd help with plans on building a t1/t3 beam.

Hi Guys,
We at Vollkommen Art have been doing the T3-T1 beam conversion for a while now.
There are many options when doing a T1 beam conversion, and some are a lot of work and do add up in cost.
care to give us some option/price details, boostn?
Some dude in UK narrowed his type 3 beam, I think they may have done an article on it. It didn't sound easy, put it that way!
not easy, the typ 3 beam is pressed from two sheets with halves welded together(front/rear, not left/right). to complicate things for us customisers, the torsion bars are set at about 5 degrees to each lower arm, with the clamp for one arm screwed into the torsion bar for the opposite side. The upper is simply the sway bar(yes you can get thicker ones made.). The wheel wells also are not kind to narrowing as it will dramatically reduce the turning cirlce due to the deep foot wells(intruding into the wheel well space!). A modified typ1 beam will work, with modified mounts for the typ 3 pan and body and will be the most cost effective as you can but drop spindles/ perf parts readily.
Check this out.....apart from the bagging...it would be much easier than narrowing a type3 beam.
As Pengy said one of the mags Ultra VW I think did an article on a guy who painstakingly did it....easier to split an atom I think.

Either way you've got rego/insurance issues.
ok no probs too hard basket. so any1 want to swap some 15 x 5.5" for 4.5's?
nice ride bite me oz. is that lotus white? yeah your wheels are really sitting out wide!

is Brian's white notch w/sprintstars narrowed? it's channeled, tubbed etc..and looks quite narrow. Check the white notch in the valla pics.
dont think its been narrowed
(although i remember him talking about trying to narrow a type3 beam like 2 yrs ago at a show down melb)
but the beam mount was raised on the chassis head which is nice
Type 3 front beams are torsion bar that span the width of the beam good luck trying to narrow one, beetle front beams are some what inferior to a type 3 beam and would reduce the ride quality severly. Not to say this wouldnt look cool.
RIDEMASTER aka hoodride do the t1/t3 beams at a pretty decent price even with shipping. My 2c
you have to modify the bulkhead( replace with a beetle one) of the floor pan to fit one josh.
empi , do u mean to fit a type1 conversion beam?
if so i believe the conversion beams are made to bolt onto the original type3 frame head (but the lower section can be cut off and plated so the pan
is the lowest part , not the clamps like normal)

mmmm i must meet this notch of yours humpty
my mind is in 2 places about what im going to do with my front end atm (type1 balljoint / lingpin , or raising the factory type3 beam in the chassis
head itself)
i think i need to see your car and discuss all things
