WTB Weber and manifold for Type4- Found one

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has a twin barrel progressive Weber carbi and manifold to suit a 2L type4 engine. Am tired of the twin solex carburettors playing up.

I can get a carburettor for $100.00, however the manifold is an issue. If someone has a spare which they are willing to part with, please let me know. (Prefer to buy as a job lot.)

The prog will be a pig on cold winter mornings as you cant get manifold heat.

The manifolds are out there though

the twin solexes are difficult but you can get them to run ok just got to fiddle with em, the progressive weber is a fuel hog because of the manifold length when cold the fuel drops out of suspension forming droplets, also it has to be jetted rich to compensate for these problem. better to save the money and get a set of 40 idf webers or 36/40 drla dellortos they come up from time to time on ebay and sometimes on this site.

do a search on stf regarding proggy's ---they are a pig on T4 at best

Thanks for the tips guys.

One of the reasons that I wish to get rid of the solex carbs, is the fact that the right carburettor is stuffed. Where the idle solenoid sits, is totally stripped out, and the carbie continually is going out of sync with the left. This results in loss of power, bad idle at constant speed as well as excessive fuel consumption.

Cheapest option would be to get some more Solexes.

The $800 option is to get some IDFs

Hi fella
I had a single 180 Holley (weber made) on my old 2L - ran like a beauty, and would recomend it.
Im not sure but I believe the manifold was imported, but you should be able to get them made up here without too much trouble or cost. They dont make the 180 Holleys anymore but thats about the size you want - they were a twin barrel progressive...

The site Kombidaze sent in relation to the Weber set up has a few useful hints- especially the use of gause to brake up droplets, and reuse of the warm air box to make it more friendly to colder climates and more fuel efficient.

There's a couple on ebay...(for a Type 1 so you'd have to source manifolds for a T4)

I bought some mountain bike gear of the fella - he's a good bloke - builds high performance cars and even has a bug he's doing up for drags..The carbs are fully clean and rebuilt too..
