why not fit new brushes

5 mins work

also check regulator is not burned out (could be prob) auto sparky would tell in 2 mins check
does the light stay on with revs??

u can get a few more kms out of the brushes if u build the pressure (length )up with a paddlepopstick bit
if no go i may let u buy one
am down next week or Gympie soon

brushes have oodles of meat left on them. its gotta be something internal.

racq dude opend up the reg.

looked brand new inside.

he said it wasnt even pulling the contacts together as there wasnt enough current.

Have you access to an armature growler? How much do you know about electrics, enough to disassemble it, run through a few continuity and resistance tests and short to ground/short circuit tests?

Nick, give Wayne a call at Buderim he usually has a few around and he's reasonably cheap.

Anthiron - October 24th, 2006 at 09:59 PM

if its a stock single port engine it should be the right one.

i think the later dog house style fan shroud had a different fan.

if it doesnt have a dog house cooler it should be the right one bernie.

dont need it tomorrow but in the nxt few days i spose.

happy to pay postage as long as its a good un.

Anthiron - October 24th, 2006 at 10:00 PM

if its no good ill take barrys advice and give wayne a call at vw mechanical. i had forgotten about him.

karmen - October 24th, 2006 at 10:54 PM

post is cheap like maybe $15

Anthiron - October 24th, 2006 at 10:59 PM

how do u want for the actual genny bernie?

karmen - October 25th, 2006 at 11:13 AM

hows $80 exch so i can still test engines and have fan

will bring gear to change fan if needed

if i can get dwn early

Anthiron - October 26th, 2006 at 10:09 PM

hey bernie!

i fixed it!!!! hope u didnt pull the genny out for me already.

managed to get the pulley off and about an hour of fiddling around with it i managed to get the wire wedged under the terminal with a bit of solder.

ancientbugger - October 27th, 2006 at 08:47 PM

Good on you Nick, that should be everything fixed by now! It all seems to happen at once, after I got back from Kings Bore last weekend with the broken shockie bolt I hosed the buggy inside and out, drove it up a slope at my place to drain out at an angle of about 40 degrees, only meant to leave it for about ten minutes but forgot about it. The next morning it was dripping petrol out of the dipstick tube!!!! I now have what must be the cleanest engine ever. What should have been just a repair to the shock tower then became a complete oil change, new filter and everything taken off the engine and cleaned. The oil had the consistency of water!

Anthiron - October 30th, 2006 at 11:32 AM

i had that problem once.

could be your needle and seats?

i rebuilt my carby and it fixed, and another problem i had which i thought was the dissy ha ha.

i dont know how type 4 fuel pumps work but apparently on type 1's the pump can wear and fuel can leak into the sump that way too.
