jamie1302 - October 11th, 2007 at 03:20 PM

I'm buying a rhd 72 super and am wanting to install a dash pad in it because i like the look of the pad in the cars but i can not get one her in the U.S. so i was wonderinig if someone might have a good used one around on a beetle they are wrecking.

the very last 72/73 model Sbugs have them
i wrecked a 12/72 with one but there arent real many around cos they were only made for 3 months b4 Lbugs took over
u'll be lucky to find a good one anyway
aussie sun isnt kind to them
plus postage would probably kill it
but the 72-75 1300 bugs have the same one too

thanks for the replys guys, i didn't know they were that rare. I'll find one someday maybe but i'm sure the metal dash will grow on me.

1303Steve - October 12th, 2007 at 01:18 PM

Hi

The same dash was used on the 1300 bugs (72-75) and the last Aussie bug in 76. Most are pretty cracked by now but can be recovered.

thanks miss vdubb, i found that one to while searching ebay but the seller was not willing to ship to the U.S. And now the listing has been canceled due to a listing error? Oh well, the search continues....lol

Matt Ryan - October 27th, 2007 at 11:44 AM

It's back on ebay again, maybe you might be able to find a South Australian Aussieveedubber who will pick it up for you & post it over?

It's not far from where I live. It's only got 2 days before it expires, let me know if I can help.

Dave

jamie1302 - October 27th, 2007 at 10:39 PM

well now it says no shipping even in Australia.
so, my only option would be for someone local to pick it up for me and ship it over here to me.

Dave,if it is close enough that you would pick it up and ship it for me that would be great, i will reimburse you for your time, fuel, and postage through pay-pal.

It only ran 32 bucks to have a steering box and idler shipped from Japan so i cant imagine the dash pad being to much to ship but i know the size will add cost.

Thanks, Jamie

MISS VDUB - October 27th, 2007 at 10:53 PM

We are here to help!
Hopefully Dave can help a fellow dubber out!:tu:

Jamie,

bid on it and if you win it I will collect it and send it onto you.

Dave

jamie1302 - October 29th, 2007 at 12:00 AM

Thanks Dave, i'll place a bid and see if i can win it tonight. If i get the dash then the only piece i will still need is a pedal assembly before i can do the swap.

dogo - October 29th, 2007 at 11:34 AM

Jamie, what pedal assembly do you need. I'm guessing a right hand drive? I can help with that too!

jamie1302 - October 29th, 2007 at 08:12 PM

yes, i need a RHD pedal assembly from a 68-up beetle( at least I'm pretty sure that year and up are all the same, it's going in a 72 super beetle. I did win the auction on the dash pad so if you want to email me at cyberbug53@aol.com then we can arrange the shipping.

I want to thank everyone that has posted in this thread for the help in locating the parts i need.

jamie1302 - October 31st, 2007 at 02:14 AM

well the seller has sent me his phone number and i've forwarded it onto Dave so hopefully i should have my dash in a few weeks and maybe even the pedal assembly also.

I need to post some pictures of my car for all to see i guess.

1303Steve - October 31st, 2007 at 08:26 AM

Hey Jamie

Does you car have front disc brakes, if not and your getting a package sent across it might be a good idea to include them. Front discs were standard on all 1302 & 1303s down here.

Steve

jamie1302 - October 31st, 2007 at 10:16 AM

Steve, no my car doesn't have disc brakes factory on it but i have been looking into some of the aftermarket disc brake kits available but would like the factory disc spindles to keep my track width down as the aftermarket kits widin it about 1 inch per side. Do the supers with discs use standard ghia rotors and calipers if i were to get a set of spindles shipped over here?

1303Steve - October 31st, 2007 at 10:41 AM

Hi

The local supers use the same rotors and callipers as Ghias and pre 72 type 3s, there are few different callipers but they all use the same bolt spacing. Below are pictures of the different pads that were used in local cars.

jamie1302 - October 31st, 2007 at 03:24 PM

well, i emailed one guy that i've been talking to about some more parts and he dosent have any early super spindles to sell and said thta by the time i paid someone for them and then paid the postage and then also had to buy rotors, calipers, pads, and bearings here int he U.S. that it would eb cheaper to just use one of the aftermarket kits available over here. So unless i find someone that has a cheap set lying around and postage isn't to bad then i will go with an aftermarket kit.

jamie1302 - November 11th, 2007 at 12:20 PM

just a small update, i bought this off a guy and it should be on a boat heading my way very soon.

Joel - November 11th, 2007 at 03:16 PM

that was the 72 carrera superbug george had on ebay for ages
i noticed hes cut it up and the floorpan and carrera kit is on ebay too

whats it cost to get something that big sent over?

1303Steve - November 11th, 2007 at 04:45 PM

Hi

Lots of room in there to stick more goodies.

Steve

jamie1302 - November 11th, 2007 at 11:55 PM

yep thats whats left of georges ebay super, i've been talking online with him for awhile about different parts i need/want. Hes a great guy to deal with. As far as shipping costs, i have no iea yet, george is checking into sea freight sometime this coming week i believe. I'm sure it won't be super cheap but way cheaper than bringing a whole car over.

and yes theres tons of room for more goodies, so far i'm buying the brakes off him that were on the car so i will have stock discs on the front of my super:D

jamie1302 - December 24th, 2007 at 10:58 PM

Well i have good news and bad news.

Good news is that Dave got my dash shipped to me and even included a pedal assembly, Bad news is my bank wont do a overseas money transfer and i cant get a hold of Dave via email or PM on here to make other arrangements to get him his money. So does anyone know Dave personally that could phone him or something to let him know I'm trying to contact him? I just don't want him to think I'm stiffing him on his money and am a little worried since we did stay in close contact and now I cant seem to reach him for days.

And as far as Georges clip, I'm hoping to be at about $800 AUS including shipping for everything from the dash forward basically. the first estimate he got was 650 shipping but we are going to cut some unneeded metal off to make it smaller to lower the shipping.

hellbugged - December 25th, 2007 at 07:06 AM

you should be able to get a western union international money order in either $US or $AU and send it over here via airmail, would only take a few days.

paypal no good? .........

jamie1302 - December 25th, 2007 at 07:38 PM

He does not have pay-pal. i will look into the money order but I'll need to contact him to get the address. Pay-pal would be easiest and instant though.
