what are they worth ?

chickenfillet - October 21st, 2007 at 02:22 PM

These things go for upto $2k complete ready to bolt on, if you can find one!

kroozzn63 - October 21st, 2007 at 02:32 PM

i saw one in a swap meet in belgium ,in a "vw mag" sitting on the table forsale

type_one - October 21st, 2007 at 08:37 PM

I know where there is one. Complete except for the acccelerator linkage. Be careful as there are two types. One for early oval etc and then later models. The manifolds are different.

In answer to the next question no it is not for sale. Sorry. I plan to use it one day hopefully.

I'd be interested in a copy though of any info you might have on them, article etc. Can you be so kind as to email them to me at type_one@hotmail.com

Cheers
Jason

Hi Jason,

I'm in the early stages at the moment but it's great to know they are out there, I'll fire through anything I find to your email. Do you know the model number of the later type?

All the best,
Kev

If you find a complete one for that price, I'll give you $3000US. Below was my complete Swiss Mag Supercharger, rarer than a Shorrock...

chickenfillet - October 21st, 2007 at 10:19 PM

I think when I find one I'll be holding onto it!

type_one - October 22nd, 2007 at 08:18 AM

Not sure on the model number. I think the early ones the flange that goes onto the head on the manifold is wider. The head one the earlier motors has the bolt holes for the manifold further apart. Or it could be the other way around. So long since i looked at it.

vw54 - October 22nd, 2007 at 08:23 AM

the Shorrock would be hard to find in Aussie I know i havent seen one here

the Judson would be a easier blower to find

chickenfillet - October 22nd, 2007 at 09:55 AM

Cheers Jason,

I'll try and find some tech drawings and do a bit more research, thanks again for your help.

Hi VW 54, the reason I'm after a Shorrock is it's to be installed on my KG and I don't want to cut up the hood to fit the air filter on - not a massive fan of the scoop! I might need to place a few wanted ads on US/UK sites.

All the best,
Kev

type_one - October 22nd, 2007 at 10:10 AM

As someone else said before they aren't cheap. After I got mine. Long story but i got it and it was a bargain, I have only seen one for sale in the US for US$3000.

If you need any detialed pics etc of it let me know and i'll pull it out. As i said before it is complete except for the accelerator linkage. I should be able to make something up once i get it in oneday.

Hi Jason,

These 'classic speed' bolt on kits are are achiving top money now, I don't mind paying I'm just hoping to find one! If I have any luck in the search it would be great to grab some pics of your setup.

Thanks again,
Kev

Good luck with your hunting!! I'll put one onto my shopping list one day...

vw54 - October 23rd, 2007 at 07:19 AM

yeah the scoop on the KG does look ugly
maybe you could adapt or make a different tube and add a air filter at the end of it

The scoops for the Judson have been reproduced and are available

chickenfillet - October 23rd, 2007 at 08:23 AM

Hi vw54,

I'm thinking this would be close but could work. Does anyone out there know the height of a Judson from where it bolts to the manifold to the top of the carb? I've been looking for a Shorrock for a while and they don't pop up too often. If I can make a Judson fit we could be on a winner, and they come with cool "Supercharged by Judson" Badges!

Cheers,
Kev

BUGBOY - October 23rd, 2007 at 08:39 PM

depending on you carb etc I can give you the height of the carb base of the blower from the top of the inlet manifold.
It all depends on manifold hieght etc but you'll be able to work it out.
I'll be putting mine together in a few days.
Unless Dave knows ?

here is some good reading you might find of interest.

on this page a guy in wa got two but is off a bugeye sprit dont know if this helps

vw54 - October 24th, 2007 at 06:35 AM

What engine arre you running the height depends on if its a 36 or 40hp as theres a spacer involved

chickenfillet - October 24th, 2007 at 01:15 PM

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the links and suggestions. I'm going to make a carboard mockup over the weekend and do a trial fit, the engine is a 40hp with stock carb (pict 28?) so if I could grab the height from where the Judson bolts to the manifold to where the carb bolts on that would be great BugBoy. I have attached a pic which kind of shows the height on the Judson I'm after.

Thanks again for all the help on this,
Cheers,
Kev

chickenfillet - October 25th, 2007 at 11:45 AM

After a bit or research (judson registry) and measuring I'm sure I can make a Judson fit, see pic from the judson registry. I know this is a 36hp but it looks like a custom filter has been made that sits behind the carb, I'm sure the same could be done with a 40hp. Now the hunt is on, if anyone has a Judson that they want to swap for my tax return, let me know.

Cheers,
Kev

Both of these are on my watch list! As it the Judson coil.

I'd love this though...

vw54 - October 25th, 2007 at 01:18 PM

yeah that kit look nice

I have circled the spacer block required for the 40hp judson

do you know theresa difference between the 36 and 40 housings

chickenfillet - October 25th, 2007 at 01:32 PM

Do you mean the 40hp Judson sits higher than the 36? Other than the single pulley is there another way to tell?

Any advice would be appreciated,
Cheers,
kev

vw54 - October 25th, 2007 at 04:30 PM

yes the carby on the 40hp has the spacer block under it so its sits higher than the 36hp

the body of the 40hp where it bolts to the mainifold has off set studs from front to back

the 36hp body has the spacing the same from front to back

hope that makes sense

the pullys are inter changeable but yes the 40hp used the single belt with a idler pully

chickenfillet - October 25th, 2007 at 05:53 PM

Cheers,

I know this is a dumb question but why is the spacer there/is there anyway to do a workaround?

Sorry for sucking your brain,
Kev

vw54 - October 25th, 2007 at 05:57 PM

the spacer allows the carby to stand up higher as the accelerator pump linkage on the later carby sticks out on the side of the blower and its needs this clearance to allow it to operate

By the way ive been playing with Judsons for about 20 plus years now so ask the questions no probs
