I've got a '78 mk 1 golf that has some special bits. I cant get photos for a while cause the car is stored some miles away. She has been parked for
a few years , but basically I'm wondering if anyone can help regards what some of the bits are worth if I was to part it out, of course I'm open to
offers as a whole.
The engine is based on a 1600 Heron block, overbored.(These were used by formula 3, producing 13 000 rpm 300 hp naturally asperated)
Cosworth pistons machined crown for 7.7 : 1 comp
Audi racing crank offset ground for o/all 1800cc capacity.
Good condition GTI head
Close ratio rally 5 speed box.
Haltech f5 efi injection.
4-1 extractors
Golf diesel ex manifold for bolt on turbo ceramic heat barrier coated (not fitted)
Late model vented brakes that have only 200k's or so.
Hipo clutch 210mm, set up by Direct Clutches Bris
Engine has run turbo at 23 lb boost for in excess of 200fwhp
15 x 6 alloy wheels with as new yoky's
Fixed 1/4 vents
Plastic 'never crack' dash & other plastic body accessories.
Audi 5e sunroof grafted into roof but sealed up as needs seals n afew tweaks.
SAAS seats f/c
Bit of rust in a pillar and doors.

Would this motor be formula 3 legal??
Good question. I dont know thier rules. I think they have a displacement limit but no idea really. Hoping someone here would know. If the overbore isn't legally a prob, just displacement limit, another crank could be offsetground to shorten stroke to get within spec. All I know is this engine is oversize, nearly 1800cc. I did not build it, but I had the head off doing the turbo and injection mods some years ago.
