Jack handle
Nickster - August 31st, 2008 at 07:57 PM

I recently bought a 1962 Beetle which has the original jack stored up front next to the spare. Its like a straight rod of metal with a spring loaded assembly that climbs the rod as you jack. I took it out to try and workout how it operates and seem to be missing the handle to get the leverage to jack the car up. Can anyone help?

Can You show me the jack?

there were a few different ones used...

I have used them since 1962 [fathers beetle]
and later

they all worked and none ever failed or dropped..

some have two spots to place the handle - One for Up and one for down...
so the jack goes down - click by click
another one I've used goes down in ONE click..

the VW jacks are thrown away in Europe and North America as the rust eats the mounting points away over there..
or i should say the salt on the ice eats the mounts away

cheers

if u dont get one off bernie i may still have a few plus whole jacks

i refuse to use vw jacks normally they are so unsafe on anything other than perfectly level cement which is never where u get a flat
but u dont have much choice tho when ur cars to low to get any other style under there

the later bus ones were the only vw jack i trust
