WTB: rego for 70ish VW here in SA.
eraser - September 19th, 2008 at 08:27 AM

Long story short, i found this awesome beetle in a shed, checked vin to see if it was stolen (looked too good to be true) grabbed it for $700, downside is it doesn't have plates, and i could take it over the pits but you know that normally ends in some stupid cost and them telling me to do stuff that doesn't need doing.

Now if this is illegal just ignore me (don't flame me please just trying to get another one out there :P), but i was told that people do this via another VW nut.

Anyway so yeah its a brown 2 tone 70's bug with 60's guards anyone got anything that my of been recently wrecked?

Thanks in advance, (if this is against the rules just delete it)

So you want to buy a car that has rego? and take the plates off that and drive a car that is unregistered but has plates from a vehicle with rego?
I think that is what you are saying?

Very illegal and not good for you if you injure somebody.

Illegal action which attracts a jail term if you get caught. Not worth it Mate

okies so what constitutes the same car? i have a 68 which is registered, do i need to move engine and chassis to the other car?

any ideas?

the vin/chassis # stays with the floor pan
so its ok to swap bodies but u cant go changing the floor pan numbers

put the new body on ur registered 68 floor pan and ur sweet

what do u mean by no plates?
just number plates? or the vin plate under the hood?
cos if its only missing the vin plate under the hood then its no biggy lots of beetles are
the Vin is still stamped on the chassis under the backseat

Have a chat to Peter or Adam Debiasi and explain your dilema.

ll costs will be incured by you
and if the car is that bad you cant get it passed by normal means it should not be on the road indangering my life and my family

Have to agree with above in part.

The price of getting hit by someone else and getting caught out would be extravagant and could end up quite pear shaped I reckon.

Let me just update this topic.. all i can say its unregistered for a reason.

I didnt know that beetles could drive so well on three wheels.
I ended up getting one of those temporary permits to drive it from A to B, lol lets say the chair is now brown lol.

Yeah lesson learnt, cheap beetle without rego = almost death.

Wanna sell the motor?

greedy53 - September 21st, 2008 at 07:15 PM

Ring Transport SA, I just did the same with a Centura from Melbourne and Just needed to do a rego check to make sure it wasn't stolen. If the car is clean enough it will pass. easy!
