First you need to do some homework, what do you want from your Kombi? What engine are you going to run? You can go straight axle, Kits are available
Try Kombi Rescue or you can go IRS using some components from a 68-69 kombi that also depends on what kit you use. Gearbox from beetle or type 3, nose
cone from your original tranny, What wheels do you want to run wide 5 or late kombi maybe porsche all this has relevance to the components you use,
this also has an effect on front brakes and master cylinder. Your front end is costly to rebuild but not impossible disc brakes available.
My suggestion is decide what you want in the end NOW don't change halfway thru, this alone will save you grief and money.

Thanks for the info mate, on the 56 I have the 69 gear and IRS with beetle gearbox.
The 58 has nothing under it at all, basically just the shell. I have the front end but it is seized.
I'm up for either straight axle or IRS, whatever I can source easier I guess. I'm just really keen to get it so it's alot more mobile and can start
some work on it.
My basic plans are to get rid of the rust, Slam it to the ground and chuck some decent wheels on. (Sounds so easy)
So if anyone has some gear or knows of some would greatly appreciate it.
I can be contacted on the above number anytime.
Cheers
When you say you have 69 gear on the 56 what do you actually have, do you have 69 spring plates, control arms with 74 hubs and late model kombi brakes
or do you have 69 spring plates with modified late arms with late kombi brakes or any of the above with early wide 5 brakes. Mate if it is gear you
want I may be able to help but you need to know which way to go or you will be just pissing money up against the wall.
So lets look at this in a sensible manner, with the limited info you have supplied (My basic plans are to get rid of the rust, Slam it to the ground
and chuck some decent wheels on. (Sounds so easy) Rear end you could use 1968/9 spring plates 74 hubs with late kombi brakes which you will be able to
get reasonably low, on the front a 63-67 front end with adjusters, dropped spindles and late kombi discs. As well as a late kombi booster and Master
cylinder. This setup allows you to be low and drivable and have a good range of wheels. So there is the start of your shopping list, once you have it
all we will talk about installation, gearboxes, brake lines, handbrake cables, engine options and all manner of things.
Not trying to be smart but as I said need to know in beginning what you want at end, makes project quicker, cost less with less grief. Also gives you
direction for finding what parts you need.If I can help with advise in components pm me.
Thanks to Alec (Kombisaint) this is finally sorted.
Thanks for the info too Paul. I will speak to you soon for some more info now I have your number.
I am just glad the 58 is going to be on wheels again.
