flashicators
NullaDub - February 24th, 2009 at 11:43 AM

Folks,

I am looking for and alternative to Semaphores for my 58 beetle. It's a daily driver and I want something that is more visible.

Does anyone have a set of the old flashing indicators kicking around before I start fabricating ??

just fit 4 lights best of a harley i think you can get a kit i assume the bug is 6 volt
keep the flashers run both or just the new ones

can't you get those Hella ones that sit within the semiphore spot?

There were flasher units that screwed into the holes that held the trafficators [semaphores] in place.
so You take the trafficator out and replace it with these flasher lamps made by Hella..
these are now hard to find and expensive...

they are probably NOT legal these days either...

so the Harley type blinkers are the cheapest way to go
unless You want to change Your tail lamps and add blinkers to the top of front guards....
which will make your 58 look like a 1962>67 beetle..

the Harley type blinkers are sold by many of the VW shops in VWA magazine..
You just clamp them on..
so no drilling holes in Your 1958 beetle..

Yes,
but remember these were made in the very early 60s..

so they are not easy to find and would be rather expensive.. although they aren't that popular...

I don't believe they would be legal as blinkers need to be seen from the front and rear of the vehicle...

install some amber LEDs into the rear tail light assembly, works well with my oval.
Also i have modified my semaphores to flash aswell.

I saw a set in Just Parts recently,I didn't take a lot of notice regarding price.most of the other VW parts seem to reappear regularly probably due to the prices.

Sent you a pm. Let me know

Mick058 - February 25th, 2009 at 06:51 AM

you'll probably need a new flasher relay too if you put the LED's in

Thx guys. I have picked up a set of the flashicators from someone on here.

Will also be dropping some indictors on the rear bumper as well because I agree you need to have something there.

I know the matter has been resolved now, but i'm going through a similar deal re. front indicators at the moment.

I've had a set of the harley flashers put on the front bar, but for engineering (in the A.C.T anyway) they had to be:

- no more than 400mm from the outer edge of the car
- no less than 350mm from the ground
- be seen from 80degrees outbound
- be seen from 40 degrees inbound

hope this helps anyone in the future!
