haha black it is then
black is probably a better option anyway seeing as im a massive grub... knowing me id get the white one covered in dirt/nailpolish/twisties dust anyway.

:)

twisties.. hahaha. just dont be one of those girls that gets foundation everywhere, mechanics hate that... i know, i was the poor apprentice that had to clean it off indicator stalks and door cards for a whole year. hahaha.

Hey Bianca if your not interested in that wheel, I am :tu: On another post someone touched on steering wheel differences with Superbug S and and L . Assume that is an L steering wheel yes? Whats the 71 S bugs wheel like. The post said something about them being rather big. I have a tiny sprts wheel on mine and dont like that at all.

I looked around until I found a good one Bianca
ones that have been sitting in a car in the sun are usually badly damaged by the sun...

a good one can be painted... any color..
and once they are painted, any makeup comes off easily..

I just use armourall on My wheel to keep it looking good..
and I used a steering wheel cover that fitted with a leather strap to lace it on...

These steering wheels are collapsable , they were made to collapse if You hit it in an accident...

I also had a new wooden steering wheel on My beetle but it was too small... the larger the better... lol

cheers

LEE

David 71 was the last year of the old Dished 2 spoke wheel with the horn ring
in late 71 the new 4 spoke steering wheel in the pics above were fitted to all beetles
it was a new safety requirement
those old ones left some nice damage on your forehead in accidents back before seatbelts

heres the one in what was left of my old 71 Sbug
if your bug was built before novemeber 71 it would have originally had one of these

Joel so would I be better to try for the original wheel or the later one? Am assuming both would fit. Must admit I do like the original.

suit yourself
with flat screen bugs that dont have a padded dash i prefer the old dished spoke wheel
but they only work on 71 and earlier cos the column mounted wiper switch on later ones hits the spokes

you have to be carefull when picking a later 4 spoke wheel
they stayed the same visually up till the end but in 74 the shaft splines changed so the later ones dont fit earlier cars and vice versa

so you need one from a 72 or 73 if you go the 4 spoke

i have a couple here if you cant find one but they could use a rub down and paint

kombivw - March 20th, 2009 at 04:22 PM

Tho i bought it and I will be only one fiixing it. The car is not actually mine. Have bought for the wife and son to use. I would prefer origina but they both thinks it looks old fashioned, so looks like I am on the market for the 4 spoke 72 to 73.
