had the same thing happen to a 48 dell side draught , take it to a guy who does aluminium welding and see if they can fix it.

i have access to an aluminium welder, but wasnt sure of its aluminium content and how well it will weld. i assume its like a VW block, near impossible to weld (yes i know the block is magnesium). but thanks i might give that a go

it wont stick with metal putty
