This is the more desirable design that was offered for sale as an accessory in the 60's in Australia.

MISS VDUB - July 13th, 2009 at 01:23 PM
Aussie only emblem sold from the UK.
Interesting to know if it's a Repro or Original
68AutoBug - July 13th, 2009 at 01:25 PM
I'd hate to see what that would do to a pedestrian...
Lee
similar emblems were common in the late 50s & 60s...
on other cars

Probably no where near as bad as a lot of City Drivers with massive bull bars on their cars.
If people are stupid enough to Run with the Bulls, and jump out in front of a moving car, they can think themselves honoured to be speared with such a
fine looking object!

Horty 2 there innner guards not wings
wings are something thats on an Aeroplane to make it fly LOL
We have Mudguards here in Aussie
Hey it looks like a very nice car looks like you have spent a few winters evening cleaning and polishing underneath
Does you EMPI steering wheel have a crack at the 12oclock position
annosL - July 22nd, 2009 at 01:29 PM
Just saw this, appears to be two emblems, the top "aeroplane" one appears facing backwards and looks to be from an american fifties car. The bottom
vw emblem were around in the sixties, I think someone has joined the two, the give-away being the 'plane one facing backwards. BUT I am no expert and
could be wrong, just someone from that era!
megalania - July 22nd, 2009 at 03:19 PM
could be from a 49/50 pontiac but I think they had a indian chiefs head on the back, maybe its been cut off?
vwscene - July 22nd, 2009 at 11:05 PM
Hey Guys...
Its not 2 emblems put together.
The emblem is a genuine VW bonnet emblem.
(From the pics, u cant tell if its a Repro or an OG one)
They were made from the one casting
and the aussie name for it was the "Bullet" VW Bonnet Emblem
horty 2 - July 23rd, 2009 at 03:09 AM
cheers for that vwscene
Its a repro I can confirm that though as mentioned in previous post
have a look at this link about the history and different versions, I think you will find it interesting.

wings, mudguards, fenders
do you guys call bonnets bonnets then or hoods?
EMPI steering wheel in perfect with no cracks or marks and unrestored - I got lucky with that!
annosL - July 23rd, 2009 at 01:05 PM
Thanks Horty2 for the clarification, I stand corrected! Interesting though and I didn't know it was a rocket but you live and learn! I remember
Austin cars sometimes had a similar emblem but with an "A" instead of a VW, wonder if the same firm made emblems for different marques?

Hi Guys,
It is an actual version of one of the original Flying VW emblems produced, there were at least three different types made.
We have an original of this same reproduction on Dad's '54 Oval
Cheers
