WTD Lowering struts and springs for SB -74

Yes it is time to lower the Superbug Herman now. Would you happen to have a lowering kit that's just taking up space in the garage?

I am situated in the Beechworth/Albury/Wodonga VIC area so if you are plenty of hours away I hope you'll be able to post them to me. Although I have nothing against a little road trip.

How much do you want to lower it? The front can be done to 60mm safely with the original struts with the right equipment and some time.

and do you want thin springs or just lowered cups??

ie do you want to put wider wheels on or stock?

Thanks for your quick replies! I would like to lower the car approx 3". Unfortunately I don't have access to a weld so I'll not be able to do it myself, but that seemed like a nice suggestion.

It will be stock wheels on this car when I can get my hands on a set.

ive got a set of lowered 3 bolt front struts, sitting up home. they are 30mm lower than stock interested?

Hi

If your going to fit any decent size wheel your better off going the skinny strut route, it allows height adjustment and a wider choice of wheel sizes.

True that, but we'll see what pops up. My plan is to have standard 4,5" rims in the front with lower tires to suit the look. And also no other VW-wheels fit in the front because of the offset.

60mm cost me nothing to lower the front. 0$ If you want 75mm, get adjustable struts. If you cant do it yourself, get adjustable struts.

Maybe just get adjustable struts.

if its a 74 then its 2 bolt and that limits you to 3" max and even that can cause dramas as you cant fit bump steer kits to 2 bolters and anything over 2.5" can bend the tierods on the body

adjustable struts is your best bet and not expensive if your sticking with stock rims

Kentamannen , I have the empi lowered struts in stock priced at I think $ 180 pr . These are a direct replacement for the original units and are adjustable from 50 - 130 mm lower in 20mm increments . These are designed to be used in conjunction with the std vw springs. I also have several different inserts to suit these struts priced from $ 45 ea . ROD , 02-42729920 .

Have not looked at it before now but I think the car might be a late -73 because it have, for instance, the 3 bolt suspension and not the 2 bolt. What exactly is a bump steer kit?

Adjustable struts would be awesome, hopefully I'll get some soon. Then it is just the search for a few standard wheels that will fit!

most likely the case
the change over happened late in 73 for the 74 model run

adjustable struts is the way to go so you can change the height at any time and not stuck with one height that cant be put back to stock

bump steer is a problem once you start to go drop more than about 2.5"

the tierods start to run uphill from the centerlink. this effects the steering but also in supers the tierods can hit the body which can bend the rods or jam the steering in worse case scenerios

bumpsteer/flipit kits just mount the tie rods from underneath which gets them back parallel to the control arms
that gets the steering back to normal and eliminates any chance of them hitting the body on big bumps

No inserts, yes $200 pr
