Hey all I need to build a demo stand to show how the Subaru 5speed fits into type 1 frame horns without hitting the torsion bar. I also need to build
prototype gearbox & engine mounts + shifter for the 5 speed conversion.
I'd like to show this off at the nats in May so ppl can see it in person.
Does anyone have a set of frame horns still connected to the centre part of the torsion housing that I can have please? IRS or Swing doesn't matter.
If still part of a pan or back part of a pan is OK too, as long as I can bring my grinder and take the bits I need.
Located in Sydney, will travel 100k radius if you're out further. Thanks heaps Todd 0419 243 275

I got a whole pan?
i've got a subi front wheel drive 5 speed and can get a rear out of a irs strut bug, might even have a shifter aswell if you need spares , what about subi axles and hubs ? have these too, legacy turbo ones twin piston caliper. wollongong.
Klaus, that would be awesome! I could get a van from work and pick up fwd , hubs and horns/torsion centre/shifter Sunday morning. How does that suit? Do we need to cut any of it out of the bug?
only downside is bug is out bush , but i could get another one not too far away from an early 60's bug complete pan already stripped.
Would prefer the IRS bug as I can keep one side of the torsion bar and show how the CV's line up. No dramas going out bush to get it.
Can you give me your number on here or PM I'll get in touch and make arrangements.
Hey all, still keen to find IRS bug framehorns and torsion bar near Sydney. Anyone?
got a whole pan?
Sorry Kuchster, missed your first post in my scrolling. Awesome. I'll PM you.
Update - thanks to boof I''ve now got the back end of an IRS bug which is being made into a demo rig. Thanks buddy thats great of you to come to the
party.
Put a shortened Subaru box and motor together today and fitted into the test rig to see where the cvs, shifter and mounts line up. Shifter is 2 inches
to the right of the vw shifter so should be easy to couple up.

CV's are in the right spot, lining up with the hubs. Had to grind off front box mount and re-weld in front of the Subaru box to re-use the mount.

It's so much easier doing this with a test rig rather than crawling under cars....!! Thanks again.
