Hi Darkstar, that's different to a Type 3 1600 isn't it. I have one in Horsham, Western Vic if that is any help too you.
Dino.
nah type 3 is the same. cept u swap cooling tin, crank pulley, generaator, fan and generator mounts with the bug stuff. Oh and if u wanna run the type
3 dual carbs, u need a linkage kit too...
All u need to 'adapt' thats extra is an oil dipstick conversion. bolts down the bottom right of the type 3 case.
All in all, they have exactly the same 'long blocks'. i got one in my type 1 (bug) pan now.
by the way, those dipstick adapter things aren't hard to find, common as heck, andcheap as chips.
hey,
I want to rebuild it and run MS efi on it.
I want to install it into a beetle, will a type 3 1600 fit straight in or do I have to do all the modificationsto the tinware etc??
Cheers
You can also drill the case to fit the original dipstick tube in,and no you use the beetle tinware.
Pm me what your asking for the engine.
Cheers
type 3 engines bolt straight in, but its not healthy for the motor to fun on a bug.
The fan / air inlet faces the back, and the type 3 setup had ducting to bring air into it.
The vw bug doesn't supply that kinda ducting. Hence why the fan air inlet faces the front.
People have ran type 3 engines in bugs fine, but some have had issues with that, and it makes sense.
It will bolt straight up though.
Thanks for the advice,
well what I can do is get the type 1 tinware and install it as you said which shouldnt be a problem.
Do you know where I can get mexican manifold with fuel injection??
I looked on ebay.com and couldnt find any.
Cheers
