beetle help needed in South Australia
aobed - July 9th, 2010 at 10:02 PM

Hi,

I'm a medical student based in Mount Gambier and seeking some advice on where i may be able to obtain an engine in the nearby area.

I've had some great service out of my 71 super beetle until this week when my engine started blowing smoke. A local mechanic with some experience with beetles suggested that i needed a new engine... however the cost of a replacement ($2500) seemed quite excessive.

Given time constraints and my need for a vehicle, i'm hoping to either access an engine or contacts in mount gambier / millicent who may know where i can get an engine.

Thanks for your help!

Hopefully someone in Your area may have an engine for sale..
much cheaper than $2500... lol

cheers

LEE

PS: A piston ring may have broken??
If the engine is still going OK...
You could get a new or used cylinder and piston/rings set

Thanks mate, i'm hoping something comes of it. It'll be a real shame to give up on the bug, i'm quite attached to it now! Have a good weekend

2500 for a replacement is about right
