looking for a good warm motor to fit into a 1961 split dual cab something reliable with a bit of h/p and general cruising for highways
is yr single cab 12v yet? are you looking to spend much? std 1600 is always a good start. can sometimes get a reasonable 2nd hand unit for $500 or a
freshened up unit for $1000 to $1500. I just built and sold a 1640 twin port with duel webers for $1650. a good std ish motor with a bit more push
than std. if you get a single port motor, they can be great for the split, but carb up grades are generally slim. good motors though. Does the ute
still have reduction hub's? if so, you will be hampered for top end speed, but you will never get bogged.
this forum will give you a few options. I am building another 1640 soon.
good luck
josh
Hi Josh Thanks for the reply I am not sure whether it is 12 or 6v the current non going motor is supposed to be a 2.0 ltr not sure as it was used on a farm for years missing parts from motor.not sure about the reduction hubs how do you tell if they are.May be interested in motor when finished
thats not a red single cab with a manuel crane on the back is it? if so, it used to be up here and yes. it has a type 4 2 ltr in it and should be remove and up right motor put back in. I think that from memory, the conversion was a little rough and the engine lid would not close. It had an IRS rear end and could take a 12 volt 1600 in there relatively easily as the gearbox was a later model bug box.
no it is a dual cab 1961 from out western nsw i will have a closer look on the weekend to see whats under her
oops, wrong one. should have read the post better.
you will tell if it is still running reduction hubs by noticing if the rear axle comes to the rear wheel above the centre of the rim. This is where
the rotation of the axle from the gearbox is transferred to the drive of the wheel through the reduction box,. great down low torque, but won't let
you travel much more than 90 on the highway. Easy way to check if its 12v or not, check the tail light globes. they will be stamped with the voltage
on them. or have a look at your battery. if it has 3 cells, its 6 volt. 6 cells and its 12 volt. post a pic or two! twin cans are lovely!
cool whats the chassis number mines 758107 and pics please...unless your princess fiona from valla
Hi Klaus my chassis is 768095 which I mack out being a 1961 ??? I am still trying to work out how to put photos on
Hi Guys not sure if this has worked but if any one can tell how to do it might help this inexperienced operator
Great find 1966type3 don't leave there without dragging it home.
nice one! its a type 4 motor! looks like its been a while since it was started! good find though!! looks pretty dry too!
If you get the shits with it and want to sell let me know
Looks like a type 3 motor with genny to the left and wicked stinger pipe. Nice bus...drop it and run wheel arch flares with widend sunraiser
wheels or baja rims.
Pick of my old girl with similar wheel arch mods notice the missing front sheetmetal.
I'm serious on the wanting if you need to sell
Hi Klaus The d/c is not for sale as I am about to start a resto and paint the same colour as the type 3 I have just finished
