WTD: Aftermarket Front Seats to suit 74 Super. VIC
bnicho - November 29th, 2010 at 09:45 AM

Hi,

I'm looking to replace my front seats with something more comfortable to suit daily driving.

Recaro, Saas or similar would be ideal, but seats from another car would certainly be considered.

Preferably something period-ish to the car and maxiumum bonus points if the trim is black.

Definitely nothing with a fixed back or wings. Tilt mechanism for rear seat access required.

Must be fairly tidy and not requiring immediate retrim.

Preferably Vic location.

(Don't want much do I !?!)

If nothing comes up then I will convert something from the wreckers to suit. But I'd see what's people on here have rattling in their sheds first. :)

Cheers,
Brett.

Hi,

I saw your seats before I first posted this thread.

They're nice, but I don't want seats with the wings around the shoulder area. :)

Cheers,

Brett

If you dont like wings then go for the Recaros out of a Proton Satria GTi

There was a set of leather ones on ebay at the moment a while ago
$1100 for a full leather set of Recaros

Contact him and make him an offer.
They are in Melbourne - see the rest or get them made into VW seats for the rear

mmmmmmmmmm.... link broken

Whatever - watch ebay
They do come up.
I paid $600 but for $1k - I reckon I would have gone leather.
They were as new

My timing sucks. I was watching ebay for a long time and nothing suitable came up, so I bought new ones, and in the last few weeks there have been a number of possible winners.

Oh well, it's only money :fakesniff:

bnicho - December 6th, 2010 at 09:04 PM

Hmm, I love those Recaros, but they are a bit of overkill on an otherwise stock bug.

Besides, they are a bit over my budget. I'm looking more at spending $150-300 on a pair of seats.

The back of my stock drivers seat has broken, and the passenger tilt forward has quit. Besides, they are uncomfortable and I slide across them on every corner. So I figure it's time to upgrade, but I don't want the change to be too obvious.

But I dunno, maybe I'm too fussy!

Cheers,
Brett

This is an example of what I'd consider ideal. But not this pair, as one appears to be broken!

The twist at the top is obvious in every photo, despite the blurry pics!

hey Bizarre i just bought a pair of recaros like yours, was it a pain to modify the seat rails?

Not that hard

You just make up a square with two threaded rods and some cross pieces
These get welded to the original frames.
Mine are 3 point seats and a bit harder - but I did start with some Audi Recaro bases I picked up

I bent up some flat bar and bolted that to the seats.

These have 3 holes each end to get some angle in the seat

I will try and find my better pictures

Ok - here was a work in progress

Ignore the side tab
That was to hold a different seat in place

Hi

I fitted Honda Prelude seats to my sons bug, you can get them from wreckers for about $200 a pair, they are very comfortable.

Bizzare,

How do you find the height of the seats mounted like that? It seems the base cushion will be quite a bit lower than the stock seats. Or was that deliberate?

Thanks,

Joel - December 16th, 2010 at 09:19 AM

Depending on how tall you are abit lower works out better.
With a stock steering wheel its not trying to cut the circulation off to your legs and with a smaller sports wheel its not covering the speedo as badly.

Mine sit abit lower than stock seats which I'm happy with and I found the seats In Bizarres bug are at the perfect height as well.
Comfy as too

bnicho - December 16th, 2010 at 09:31 AM

I'm 5' 11" and I find the stock seat height is about right when driving . My head is nowhwere near the headlining.

But yes, the proximity of the steering wheel to seat does annoy me getting in and out. So an inch or two lower would be fine I guess.

I've bodgied up my current seat for now until I sort something out.

Bizarre - December 17th, 2010 at 05:45 AM

3 point bases are higher than normal 2 rail

The Recaros are lower (flatter) than any seat I have found

There is a Scat base you can buy for the 3 points that get them 1/2" lower.

Steve has them in the 1303RS L bug

bnicho - December 17th, 2010 at 08:02 AM

My car is two point unfortunately. I prefer the design of the three-point. But you work with what you have.

Does anyone make decent rails for the two point type?

Cheers,
Brett.

2 point bases are MUCH easier to work with
