What I have here is one of those tow bars that you would never consider putting on a car. Beetles can't pull the skin off a rice pudding, let alone
tow anything! Well maybe a tiny sailing boat down to Manly, but that is about it. (Tow bar only, clip has gone & I need the classy bumper for my
new project) Bolts onto rear bumper mounts and another hole needs to be drilled forward on the rear apron section on the bottom.
It's probably worth $10 in scrap, so swap me something VW related worth about the same and it's all yours.
Pick up only, but happy to work with the VW forum help out a dubber courier system to get it anywhere.
I have done a LOT of towing with beetles, and let me assure you, with the low gearing and rear engine, they will out-pull a lot of cars. If you want a
lot of highway speed, however, you do need a more powerfull engine.
My dad used to tow big trailers full of fire wood with his '57 36hp. Didn't achieve any great speed though (weren't game with that much weight).
I once towed a trailer full of site clean-up materials - dirt, timber, etc. stacked on the trailer about 1800high and lengths of hardwood up to 6000
long - from Beechwood to Port Macquarie in the pouring rain. I reckon it would have easily been 2 tonnes. Mind you, I wasn't game to go over about
50kmph. lol The trailer was nearly driving the car. lol
I have just towed my toolbox trailer (about 3/4 of a tonne - full of tools) from Newcastle to Orange, over the Blue Mountains with a 1916cc engine. No
worries except on some of the long, steep hills - otherwise, speed limit all the way. It did knock my fuel consumption around quite a bit though.

My tow car when I was racing a F.Vee - late '60s - was a 1500 Beetle. A bit slow up the big hills, but downhill was good, providing that you didn't
brake too hard, or the front wheels would lift. The trailer would act as a 'wheelie bar', so it wasn't too bad!
