Does anyone have an adapter kit for a Subaru EA82 or EA81 motor ?
i dont have a kit
But i have an EA82 for sale
Also i can probably build the adaptor if you give me some measurements
I have the motor thanks, not sure I would be accurate enough with measurements,
phone john sherman at volksconversion, he builds them for a living. he supplyed mine, he is the guy to talk to as the ea81 and ea82 are differnt kits.
cant see how the 81 and 82 are different kits?
Dimensions are nearly the same, gearbox bolt holes are the same unless its motor mounts
Only think I can think of and ive been playing with these engines for a few years and have compiled a fairly good knowlage
Probably the flywheel then? I did email john a few weeks ago He told me they are different kits, I was trying to get hold of a second hand one to save cash so I would still be able to afford the little luxuries in life like food and electricity
yeah the difference in the kits is the flywheel..... i think the adaptor plate is the same. but i think that the 6v and 12v is also a variation.......
What state are you in ? I have an EJ 1.8,engine/,adapter, / mod flywheel, /200 mm clutch & pressureplate that wasn't used in a project. I'm
keen to sell at a reasonable price.......
I have the adaptor but need the engine. Im pretty sure the flywheel is for an EA81 but im not 100%. Is there any way to tell?
I am in NSW about 35 Km north of Newcastle. Is your EJ 1.8 a carb or FI, if the latter then I would need the ECU and wanted to keep things simple for my first conversion. The Ute in my little avitar thing is going to have an EJ 22 in when I get round to it and have done this one
Hi again,I'm located in Sydney, the motor is efi.....the package was bought from Vicsbahn about 18 months ago, coming out of an VW oval. The wiing loom never came with the purchase.I'm in the middle of a '67 bus resto and won't need this gear.I'm probably looking for about $300 for the whole package......have a receipt of the purchase if required...
You have got me tempted now, I will have a think about it today and do a bit of research. Is the engine a goer? did you ever see it running?
It may easier if you give me a call on 0418164059 and I can give you a full rundown, ring straight back if I don,t answer, I''m doing a lot of grinding and sanding on the '67 bus. Usually up to at least 11pm.
It probably is a really good buy but I would be deviating from my initial plan . I bought an old Suby took the motor out which I know is good and sold a lot of other bits so it has cost me next to nothing and is sat on my engine stand awaiting transplant. So I'll say no thanks and carry on looking for a kit.
You're welcome......happy hunting for whatever parts you need.......the doctor...
Ok so I spoke to John and the difference between the EA81 and EA82 is in the converstion plate. The EA81 plate is made of cast alloy and has a flat bottom and the EA82 plate is made of steel and is completely round. Flywheel is the same as far as I know.
But if the bolt pattern is the same for both motors then they probably could be made to fit each other somehow?
That's interesting.
My Sherman EA81 adapter looks like it was made out of machined aluminium (perhaps cast then machined?)
What my adapter does is replace the engine bellhousing which the EA81 has. so the adapter is a pretty beefy thing because it comes out from
where it's bolted onto the case near the split, out to the usual VW 4 stud bellhousing pattern. Bloody solid bit of gear.
Thats right. The EA81 engine has its own bellhousing that has to be removed and bolted to the plate, so is the most difficult to install. I havent
seen one that comes with its own bellhousing but sounds good to me.
From what I know the EA82 doesnt have this so the plate is completely different. But if in doubt, talk to John at volksconversion. He knows all.
It looks like thats what I will be doing in a week or so as I now have enough money for both food and adapter kits, and it is at this point when 10 people simultaniously list their unused kits on ebay for $50 isn't that usually the case?
If only that was true. There have been very little on ebay over the last year or so, however there was one listed that didnt sell about a month ago http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260724024675&ss...
They wanted $200 for it and it looks to be an EA82 adaptor but I dont know exactly.
