I have a 69mm counterweighted 8 dowell CAST crank. It is no good to me as i need forged. Have been told it's good for a stock engine but no good for
what i'm doing....
I don't really know what it's worth, at a guess 100 bucks?? Make reasonable offer and its yours. Would swap for Forged c/w 8 dowell + cash your
way...

bump.. 50bucks???
why the forged rather than cast whats sort of engine would the cast still be suitedto ?
We'll as I have been told, the cast cranks are un reliable at high rpm, as I am building a drag motor, I will be looking at 6000 rpm plus. it could
be used in a nice 1600/1916 street motor or similar. I could use it but for the way I'll be using the engine it's a risk I can't afford to take. If
the crank fails at that sort of rpm its bad news. but as I said, it's fine for a lower rpm street motor.
Mick.
original stock VW cranks were forged.
It is a more expensive process - and a better product
I am 99% sure the new mexican 1600's have a cast crank
That said, there is nothing wrong with a cast crank in a stock rev range.
I just wouldnt build a motor that revs to 7,000 and expect the crank & case to last
Exactly. In much fewer words....
cast cranks are more maleable, my brother runs a scat in his chev 383 and it has 350 at the wheels.
cast cranks are far more forgiving and handle harmonics and imbalances better. maleable - less rigid.
who here has had a cast crank and has had one fail and in what way was the car used ? theyre good
for 600 or so HP.
I dunno, I'm just not gonna risk it due to advise from a very reliable source with a hell of alot of vw drag racing experience. The scat cast cranks
for vw's are advertised for use under 5500rpm.
50 bucks and it's yours.
Mick.
