Anyone got a speedo in KM to suit a 1971 super for sale
HARDWORK - April 23rd, 2011 at 12:23 PM

Hi
Does anyone have a speedo in KPH to suit a 1971 Superbug hanging around in their shed they want to sell.
Am happy to swap my old MPH speedo for it once I get it out and replaced.

Needs to have the fuel tank part in the speedo. All working of course.

Either that or an inlay I can put inside of this one, they are selling them on ebay for $60ish, just for an inlay. Don't think so! Its jut a piece of paper.

Dont want one of those stick on labels, want the real thing.

If you have one let me know your price. Thanks

The Km/h speedos don't go cheap, normally $100+ depending on which model it is.

The faces on ebay are made from plastic with opaque numbers like modern cars thats why the price tag.

I have one in my bug, they won't be any use to you as they're for 160km/h speedos, the 90mph would read way off and also putting a KM/h face in a MPH speedo means your odometer is useless as it still turns in miles not KMs.

I just bit the bullet and bought a new km/h speedo and new cable + fuel sender from Mick's Motors in QLD. Works like a dream!!

KMH speedos used to be $200 years ago but now many people have bought them in from Europe.

They can still cost $140+

You need a KMH from 1968 to 1976 NON 1303 Super Beetles...

the late ones will be black faced the earlier ones look like the early model speedos...

Lee, is there a build date on that speedo of yours? or is it one of the universal replacements?
Semi-autos after 73 were only availble as LBugs so its unusual to see a flat screen 160km/h speedo for a semi-auto.

Hardwork, are you wanting to be period correct?
the proper 69-71 140KM/H speedos are pretty rare to come across in aus.

The later 73 onwards 160km/h ones like Lee's are easier to get as they were standard on 73 onwards 1300 aussie bugs

HI Joel
No not worried about it being period correct, just want a speedo that will do km/h. So the one pictured above (Lee's) will that fit my 71 super even though its at 73 model speedo?

Joel - April 24th, 2011 at 06:01 PM

Yeh, all flat dash speedos have the same mounts, it's only Lbugs that are different.
